What cheeses me off

What cheeses me off is when people negate my husband's health issues . He does get around on a cane fairly well however he also does fall over at home, has major issues with getting up.
Ahh yes RooFlyer my husband was also one who was the perfect health, didn't see a doctor before he didn't have problems :( . Just a random very lengthy pins and needles that ended being one very large brain tumor and two small ones (we didn't realise about those )
I do have to say I would love to do HLO (yes legally for those who wish to critique the retired and with health issues ) but it can be tedious using check luggage is more convenient for when we do eventually get to the destination
I do have to say the past few years where husband has had quite a few new conditions, our knowledge of the public health system has increased lol

Northern Euro / Scottish / Irish background. Luckily for me I only carry the one gene.
I have read about bone marrow (and bone broth, etc) being helpful for arthritis.
Yes I have one gene. Son has haemochromatosis but - well, he's adopted so not my contribution. He discovered his during routine blood tests when he was 35 and now has blood taken. He's also become vegan (not related) so next tests will be interesting.

I suppose every professional earns their money from solving some one else’s problem.. only idiots put it out there..
I agree. As a consultant, you should hear what some of our clients say when we start the engagements - a lot of "... we didn't think it was/would get so bad!"

My first health 'issue' came at about 35. I was very fit field geologist leaping over mountains and the like. I had a blood test for something I can't remember (no MyHealthRecord then :) ) and it came back with very high iron levels in the blood - haemochromatosis. A genetic disorder (in those days poorly understood) where your body just accumulates iron and if left intreated the body starts shoving iron compounds into soft tissue, causing cirrhosis amongst other things.

No worries, fortunately they caught it early-ish and I just had to donate blood to remove the iron. Happily sailed on for another 30 years until another side effect started coming into play - arthritis (or greater effect of it). That's brought sometimes 2 tablets a day on flare-up and 1, possibly 2 operations, with associated strong painkillers.

I know there are others on here who have somewhat debilitating genetic disorders. So again, good luck @Lynda2475 with continuing good health - with a bit more life experience you may gain some more empathy and understanding of others' conditions.
Similar situation here, although as a surveyor (driving up the mountains rather than walking). My paternal grandfather was from the north of England, and he had a heart attack at 55, and then others later on. Dad, who was an athlete at school, slim build, walked everywhere and very fit also had a heart attack at 55. And through family history research in recent years, grandpa's brothers also succumbed to heart attacks.

I took heed of that and from 30 onwards had a 'big' annual heart check on or around my birthday to make sure all was good. Between my 34 and 35th birthdays I went into a long-term health study, and they took blood samples. They rang me to say my cholesterol level was 6.2 - normally sat at 3.5 Obviously I followed up with my GP, who said I was screwed because of my genetics (he has a good sense of humour) and prescribed statins, which I've been taking ever since. All has been good since then, without any issues. It's just my body starting to fall apart due to all the dumb things I did when I was younger. Be thankful for good health.

Condescending much?

How do other peoples chronic conditions have any bearing on whether or not I as an individual have either a desire or a need to use the My Gov My Health Record?

It isnt a matter of not having empathy, it is simply completely irrelevant to my personal situation considerations when deciding to opt-in or not.

Maybe instead of making insinuations/threats about my future health you could just accept that there are many people healthy and unhealthy who have zero interest in opting in to My Health Record, and the fact that is is optional means the government too recognizes it isn't a must have for all.

All the people not using it do not affect you in any way, you are jumping to wild conclusions that not liking or having a use for My Health Record makes them or me incapable of empathy or managing our health records in other ways.

I can confidently say even if I end up with a chronic condition I wont be opting into My Health Record.

@Cossie:

Yellow fever AIHandbook

In summary:
Booster recommended after 10 yrs for
If you work in Yellow Fever laboratories
If you were pregnant during the time of YF shot
If you had HIV at the time of YF shot
If you are going to and staying for an "extended" time in an endemic area - see Who list i linked above
If you are going to an area where there is an outbreak

But even without booster and even with a valid YF Vax cert - the thing to do is to mitigate the Mozzies. Dawn and dusk, appropriate clothing, mozzie nets, insect repellants.

Also look up "Travel drs" - they can advise if you need a booster

Thank you for the info. :)

This push by the government makes no sense.
It makes a lot of sense as the drugs captured in Safescript is causing a lot of problems with dependence and addiction. It's the best way to flag unsafe situations - commonly when someone gets a script for painkillers then goes down the road and gets another script for the same.

I need it for claustrophobia and sever panic/anxiety attacks.
I Uunderstand and Safescript does not mean you can't have the medicines you need.

Why am I not trusted? Why am I treated same as a junkie
Reticence to prescribe a certain medicine does not mean you are a junkie.

Just be careful about the vegan diet with haemochromatosis. Vitamin C increases iron absorption so not a way I would treat my iron levels.
But drink tea as your caffeine beverage as it can inhibit iron uptake.
He went vegan because he decided he no longer wanted to harm animals when there are alternatives to diet. I'll mention this to him to keep track.
