What do you actually spend you Velocity points on?

Hmmm. On closer inspection my original assumption appears correct. The points quoted are for one-way? If so, the it is ~50% more expensive that going directly with Virgin Atlantic. I was really starting to get excited there.

Yup, 30k points direct with VS, as compared with 43.4k points with VA. For my part, VA points are easier to earn than VS miles .. *shrug*

Actually, going back to my previous posts on using them for DL when I'm in the states, does anyone know if we can redeem on DL codeshares (i.e. DL numbers operated by AS, AZ etc) or does it have to be DL metal? Can't see any enlightening info on the website.

Don't even think about it...

You can't get VFF SC/points on AS metal even with a DL number as I found out this time last year.

Keep the points for Australian or long haul upgrades. Spend the extra coin & get the extra SC/points on DL or VX if you can. There's often not a huge difference on short American sectors in terms of price between Y & F.

Yeah I knew you couldn't earn (a frequent frustration as much as my work is SEA/PDX based and I would often find myself on an AS-operated DL flight) on codeshares but I was wondering if you could redeem on codeshares, as long as they had a DL number. Might start a new thread on this as it is a bit OT.

Jnr#1 and I are off to The States in Sept. The outbound is on a very long J flight via Lifemiles redemption, SYD-ICN-HNL, with flight on VA, probably the day prior, up to Sydney. We didn't really want to come back the long way, so I purchased 2 oneway Flexi's on VA, LAX-MEL and upgraded to J for 90,000 pts total.

Having only just joined Velocity recently I have about 26k in the bank with my flights planned domestically another 10k due to hit. I am just going to be working up the points balance a lot - I want return first Melbourne to Manchester return for two people........

Everyones earning ability is not equal. I could probably earn more VA miles if I booked more flights with VA rather than QF but QFF points are much more valuable to me.

FWIW in ~12 months I have earned ~60,000 VS miles and I have not credited a single flight to them. All from car hire and Hilton stays with promotions for VS miles.
