Hi all,
Not sure if there is already a thread on this...

I am curious as to what people do for a living - what are all the different varied and interesting jobs that people do to earn frequent flyer status - and do you enjoy it?

Personally I've been working in government project management for a while now, but all local work so only travelling interstate once or twice a year. I'm looking to switch to a different sector soon I think.

How about you? How do you rack up the status credits? 😊

Those threads are pretty old and are closed to replies.

I'm a retired geologist, now do a bit of writing and publishing (unprofitable!) so my travel is funded from the Super account

Have kept QF Plat via a well-planned OW RTW each year (until 2020 that is).

Wow sounds interesting!
Do you have lifetime gold by any chance?

Got LTG before I joined AFF. :) Was then doing 6-8 trips a year for 3-4 years to Canada in J, for a client; that after a few decades of other business travel. Nowhere near LTP though.

A semi-retired IT Consultant. Still get called up to do some project assurance and/or recovery work mainly for the NSW Government agencies. So my flying for work has largely come to a halt from those heady days 2000-2015 as a full time consultant travelling to all states and the ACT.

Medical Specialist essentially in the public system
I usually acquire mid-level status from an annual overseas and a couple of domestic conference trips
Eminent academic doctors can become very frequent flyers but that doesn't include me. I'm a not-too frequent flyer but like to get the most out of the various programmes

OK so election question - are politicians eligible to earn frequent flyer points and status from government salary? If so, how long do you think it takes the average pollie from Mel, SYD or bri flying to Canberra to rack up platinum? 🤔

you get SC as a government employee but not FF points. I presume that applies to politicians as well. A few in the thread above

I think Politicians, like, public service staff, can accrue only status credits, not points …

Re : how long - assuming the parliament is sitting for atleast 6 months in any given year, and pollies travelling twice a week (assuming SYD-CBR) , on flex J fare, might get to platinum within 5 months from NB

IT developer but flying was personal not business.

Now with young family and Covid has clipped wings. Qantas Lifetime Gold and BFOD for the foreseeable future.

Work in operations within the online gaming industry - our market is USA and all the teams I personally lead are offshore in Asia, USA and Canada. Majority of my travel is international with a little domestic.

Mostly booked in Y/PE and use points to upgrade to J - pretty successfully.

Started back flying in March this year at Bronze level (as pre-covid I was based outside of Australia and AA was my airline) and will hit P1 from a Bronze starting point at some point this year - did a recent post on Bronze to Platinum in the QF forum.

A long way from QF Lifetime anything!
