Joined early 1996 & I'm a 10*****

...in 1998 ...(2xx xx_x)....

I joined early 1998, 126xx_X...if numbers are sequential, it means only about 250,000 joined from 1996 to Jan 1998, but at least 750,000 joined between Jan 1998 and when Flying Mermaid joined later in 1998....? Really that many in a few months? Or would my number ( and the next sequential one for my SO) be different because we joined in UK?

My QF card says I am from Sep 1988 with a 34xx_ number. I find that in some system I need to put in a 00 in front (which is actually printed on the card i.e. 0034xx_)

With the number approaching 10 million, and there's only about 24 million (?) population in Australia... it's getting a little scary.

My join year was 1986, so am one of the four digit mob, as is my partner, who joined the same year.
No anniversary certificates from QF for the milestone last year. :o

I too joined in August 91 and was issued with the number 41xx_. Around the time Qantas took Australian Airlines in 92 they added a prefix of 02 to my membership number...never did figure out why!
Thanks Scozzie you have jogged my memory as my number now is on my card 013xx_x.I always thought it was lower.I must have joined just before you with number39xx_ and I now remember they added the 01 when I purchased my life QP in 1992.

But don't forget some people are from overseas. and some people have died too.. so it isn't that surprising.

Dont forget big changes were made to the program during that time including lounge access for elites.

When I joined in 1994, there were three 'elite' levels - Blue (20 domestic flights on your "year"¹), Silver (50) and Gold (80) - only Gold or First Class² (Domestic) travel gave one QP access.

With early versions points had to be redeemed by the end of the year after they were earned - but that was before my time.

The big explosion of membership came with the introduction of the "Qantas Telstra ANZ Visa" around 1997 which had the (then novel) aspect of earning 4 points per dollar spend (which could be redeemed for lots of things including QFF points at ¼).

¹ Status could also be earned with total distance flown which varied between international/domestic.

² Back then there were three classes of domestic travel on Qantas Jet flights (F/J/Y).
