We were having a dinner party conversation about our upcoming trip to the US and someone mentioned that a man was recently stopped from boarding an aircraft even though he had a visa. We all wondered if he got a refund or would his travel insurance cover it? What would happen to my Dividend Miles?

Thanks Paul

It would depend on the T+Cs of his particular travel insurance. My understanding is the huge majority exclude "failure to obtain appropriate visa" or "denial of entry by immigration" or similar such wording.

They would put on the flight back to your origin and if it was something the airline should have known then they get fined.

Then why was he "stopped from boarding"?

The answer will be very much dependent upon the reason he was denied boarding.
