What is a blocked seat? Is it taken?

Just a quick question - am new at expertflyer - am looking at a seatmap of a QF28 flight SCL-SYD - specifically seat availability in business for seat selection purposes. This is a 3 class 747. All four seats in row 1 show as blocked - does that mean just that they are blocked (for high status or whatever pax), and are still available, or can they have been allocated already?

My interest is I am travelling with wife and kids - 4 of us all up - I am QF WP, they are all LAN Commodoro (Emerald equivalent)

Yeah, generally blocked for higher status levels, though could be blocked for other reasons such as operational reasons. On flights to CNS, with high number of leisure travelers, I sometimes notice a large group booking block. When I check back later around checkin time, the seats all become dark blue (allocated).

Also, I assume you have put your FF number into the settings in EF. Then the blocked seats will show according to your Status as well. Does T-80 work for International flights as well? Blocks for P1 and CL often fall away for WP at that time.

Wow! Thanks kevrosmith - when I added my ff number the seats are suddenly available - my next problem is that as the ticket is a codeshare the issuing airline LAN probably cant use my QF status to secure them :(

Not sure about LAN, but when I fly AA, it recognises my QF WP OWE status and allows me to select seats according to OWE status. Can you try to put the PNR into QF MMB?

Going offtopic for expertflyer, but I do the transpacific SYD-SCL flights at leats a few times a year, and seat selection has always been impossible. The LAN site does not allow you to do it yourself as it is QF operated, QF cant do it through a call centre as the seatmap is divided between each airline, and calling the LAN premium line gets you someone who also can only "see" the seats that are "theirs". So LAN staff can't see row 1, and QF staff can't see my booking. (LAN and Qantas having different booking systems and thus record locators)

Seat selection with the QF/LA codeshares is annoying difficult. The two systems don't talk to each other. I read on here somewhere that you have to actually wait until OLCI opens to select a seat when flying QF27/28 booked through LAN. Which is frustrating to say the least.
