Wondering whether anyone has set ideas or guidelines as to what constitutes a worthwhile ASA, purely from a 'price' perspective, and on straightforward point-to-point fares (ignoring those handy little multicity runs that can be had with some co-pay).

For example do people set a % increase figure beyond which the ASA is not considered worth purchasing? Say a MEL-HKG Classic J award is 60K points (which it is :)) plus $$$ for T&S. Would you consider a 'price' of say 90K (with no cash component to pay) - ie. a 50% 'markup' - to be reasonable for a JASA? Or some other % figure?

This may be a 'how long is a piece of string' question due to many possible varying parameters and influences on the ASA 'prices' but curious to see if anyone has some rule of thumb they work by when assessing the worth of booking a J(F)ASA over a classic award.

If an xASA gets you somewhere where you want to actually go then a higher point/SC ratio can be warranted.

The ACT/TAS and FNQ/NT trips 100 SC one way are really MR's.

If you want to go transpacific for a reason then the BNE/MEL-xSYD-LAX options are ok, although NZ may be better.
