Is ADL security at it again. The post may be a bit of a rant, I am a traveler with very fixed routines so anything different I notice also this is not intended to be an ADL bashing, I live there and fly out on a weekly basis and have done so for more years than I care to remember.

Yesterday going through security there was the standard security chant remove all laptops, aerosols, umbrellas, phones etc., what I picked up on was iPads were to be removed. WTF I thought I cannot remember when the last time I had to take out my iPad at security in AU so I just ignored this and put may bag through. Sure enough it was set a side and had to be rescanned with the iPad removed. I asked the security person was the need to remove iPads and other tablet devices a new rule.

I was informed that the machine could not see through the iPads I thought was lot a load of rubbish, it is the same:
  • iPad that I have been using for months,
  • iPad that past through ADL security last week and the weeks/months before that without been removed from my HL
  • iPad that gets past through in MEL and SYD every other week whilst in HL.
  • X-ray machine as last week
I get that Airport security may not be the most exciting job in the world well some may get a kick out of it but why just randomly change rules. Time to get off my soap box and come to the realisation that for the next 4-6 weeks - remember to take out iPad until things go back to normal. Rant over

I have the same problem in Adelaide as well, always told to get my IPad out it shouldn’t be in my luggage, told them I don’t have this issue anywhere else, and I was told the other airports weren’t doing there job properly, had a VA flight Attendant behind me and she said they Had the worst record in Oz for trying to upset people, she got pulled aside for a scan after that!
Had to laugh at your quote as I had a similar experience once. Already grumpy from 4am wake up, got to the airport only to face the usual security and queuing mayhem and to top it off, my flight was already on final call by the time I managed to get through only to be stopped for the dreaded swap. The security took his time to wait for 2 more victims and did the bulk check the slowest way possible. At the end of the saga, I couldn’t hold back anymore and cheekily said that it was obvious to me then why the instant feedback stand disappeared not long after it appeared. I ran off before the security could say anything. :D

This is the thing that infuriates me with the swabbing. I went through a phase where I only had to look at an airport to get swabbed. And yet they insist every time that it's random!

Not even approaching random.

Three swabs in one day (3 outa 3 flights), then no swabs for months.

... I stored a bag for a few hours at St Pancras station in London a few years ago. It was a long umbrella. I was called into a special room to explain to them what the long thing that looked like a rifle ...

Sounds a bit 007. Might be a Brit thing.

For those who fly out of ADL the iPad and umbrella blitz seems to be back on the cards. This evening there were 4 groups plus myself all discussing and waiting for the second bag screen why is ADL so difficult. The I remembered there was a post late last week indicated that ADL took pole position for the worst airport in AU.

I thought it was in the top 10 world wide?

I got sent a link and maybe misread. There is no way on this God given Earth ADL could ever be considered in the worlds top 10 and I live in ADL.
Oh I totally agree but think it earned the rating due to proximity to CBD, restaurants 😁, (although the Icon shop is probably pretty cool) , cost of parking and timeliness. Security didn’t rate.

ADL security seems to be at it again, I travelled the other week and went through the normal iPad, laptop out, phone and all other electronics left in the bag. Today not only did the iPad and the other normal stuff have to come out, so did all the electronics including the phone, chargers and headphones. Not sure what has changed in the past couple of weeks to prompt this, the x-ray machines are the same as they were 2 weeks ago, it would just seem that the ADL security have thought of something else to make the security screening experience just more difficult. Also I am wondering as travel picks up when they may bring back the priority lane.
