Thanks everyone for the replies. You've pretty much confirmed what I thought.

... then earn the next ~33% of that required to maintain WP via no cost JASA flights.

gowatson, can you explain how the JASA flights are 'no cost'. Don't they cost you points at least & maybe some $$?

I earn points:

1) From the basic miles from the flight. Ok sure I did pay from the flight but I did not directly pay for the points.

2) Cabin and Status points bonus from being a WP.

3) Points from my credit card spend, which can double drip as does my Amex QF Ultra where I get 2.5 x points per $ spent with QF and 1.5 points for other spends. By selecting other QF partners I can also double dip points earning.

Those points did not cost me a direct money spend as they came as part of, a bonus on, my purchase decisions. I can then exchange those "no cost" points to obtain "no cost" JASA's that save me money on my flying, while earning more points and SCs.

OK, I understand you regard your points as a bonus and I agree that they cost you no actual money (although this is a bit like believing in free lunches).

I regard my points as an asset - something of value. Therefore when I use points for a flight, my asset is diminished and so the flight has cost me something.

I guess it amounts to different perspectives.

We are on the same page. I use my points to reduce my cost of flying, while earning more SCs and points. Well chosen JASAs are a fantastic QF benefit as is the FLounge. With my flying requirements, I can earn WP by paying for ~800 SCs worth of flight and earning ~400 SCs from JASA fights done on points.

That JASA is now $180 in cash thanks to the increase in fuel fines etc. If we look at net points cost versus earned SCs:

TSV-BNE-MEL-AKL is 53052 points less 7986 points as a WP earned, so 200 SC = 45066 or 225 per SC
TSV-BNE-AKL is 34922 less 6163 points as a WP earned, so 140 SC = 28759 or 205 per SC, and its doable in a day as a return (if you are lucky to be in TSV!

Out of interest I ran the same comparison for TSV-BNE-DRW-BNE-TSV: 69,845 points less 12,236 as a WP, so 280 SC = 57,519 or 205 points per SC. Also doable in a day as we know.

Looks like there's really something for everyone when you start from TSV, depending upon how many SCs you need:

TSV-BNE-AKL: 140 SC for 28,759 points (205 points per SC and doable in a day).
TSV-BNE-MEL-ADL: 200 SC for 45,066 points (225 points per SC but not doable in a day).
TSV-BNE-DRW-BNE-DRW: 280 SC for 57,519 points (205 points per SC and doable in a day).

I did this one few weeks back after receiving the double status Q bonus offer (1 long day!), plus added a CNS/TSV/CNS for a mere 48K points plus taxes, jumped SB to SG in one hit once all added on.

I've got one booked for late this month, along with runs to/from ADL:

MEL-ADL (Red eDeal) & ADL-BNE-TSV (JASA)
TSV-BNE-DRW-BNE-TSV (JASA)
TSV-BNE-CBR-ADL (JASA) & ADL-MEL (J*)

Will be a long three days, but going straight from NB (almost PS) to WP.

I have never done a pure SC run, though I was going to do so to quickly gain DJ Gold until they cut my b*lls off.

Huh?
Does "DJ cut my b*lls off" have its own thread :?::confused:
