Hi, I will be travelling to china for 17 days in the next month and want a sim card for my samsung phone (android). I will be flying into Beijing.

Where should i buy a sim card? airport? or in the city? What should i get where i probably would like 1gb of data and to be able to make international text messages and a couple of phone calls?

would i be able to get afl scores at all?

China is somewhat more difficult than other Asian countries and the situation changes regularly.

On my last trip approx 12 mths ago to Shanghai, nothing at the airport and nothing at convenience stores, I ended up going into a Unicom store and 4 copies of my passport and 12 pages in Mandarin later I had a prepaid 1mth plan with about a gig data and some phone credit.
Facebook/Twitter is blocked and maps are useless for exact mapping (due to a GPS offset), but would expect AFL apps to be OK.

Enjoy Beijing. Its a great city

As moa999 there are some interesting things in the mobile world in China, due to random restrictions we found it easier to move our frequent china visitors to Vodafone.

Pay $5 a day and you use their aussie cap limits, so far so good and you only pay the $5 on the days you use the service.

Have a look at Travelsimsdirect.com. They provided me with an excellent option for the US and I see that they have a good (EDITED) Japan not china and Europe (Worldsim) option as well. Good service from Michael and he helped me out without any moans.
