What is the most "notable" attire you've seen being worn in an airline lounge?

Re: What is the best and worst clothing you've seen someone wear in an airline lounge

I once saw someone in a rugby jersey :o but looks can be deceiving, and turned out to be a nice guy! :p

As opposed to the people dressed up to the nines in their business suits/attire and can be downright rude and real jerks some times...

I've seen a guy daring enough to wear a bright red Qantas shirt in a Virgin lounge.. Not only once either..
Just to emphasise his passion & loyalty.....

Going up the escalators to the EK lounge in AKL yesterday there was a young bloke in t shirt, shorts and thongs in front of me.
Fortunately he went into the Qantas lounge.

I try to maintain a standard and hope that I help raise the standard. Frankly I find the real test comes when they try to use a knife and fork. I wonder sometimes if it's the first time they have ever had to use them

Not attire as such but saw a guy at Rome lounge sucking on a huge cigar for about an hour. Not lit of course, very strange.

Now I will admit I have never been in any of the Lounges, but why is it so bad the people wear shorts & thongs ? i would have thought if you spend the money it takes to grant access it would not matter ??

There's a condition of entry to the QP that states pax should wear smart casual. Boardies, singlets and thongs can never be smart casual. This topic has been discussed elsewhere so lets not restart it here, just answering the question.

OT but as I left the office today there was a naked man (wearing joggers) doing stretches in the street while waving a pair of lime green shorts above his head. That was notable.

That's different .. Any photo evidence :?:

Last weekend I saw a naked guy sellotaped to a no standing sign, celebrating a buck's party.. It was amusing spectacle at 4pm on a busy road.

He didn't appear to be the most...ahem...stable character and I thought whipping my phone out to take a photo might tip him over the edge - and goodness only knew what that would involve!!

That's a pretty harsh assessment, he was wearing joggers after all !

This has been an invaluable thread, thanks for the heads up guys and girls. After a long time without a holiday, I'm taking the Good Lady to the qp on Valentines Day and had been tossing around the idea of pulling out the old footy shorts (they seem to have shrunk over the years, Warwick Capper will have nothing on me), and my favourite VB or Fosters singlet... I would be couth enough to put socks on with my thongs though, even though my favourite pair may mean my big toes are sticking out... :)

Everyone has different tastes.

Shorts, singlets and thongs are good for the beach not lounges....

It's funny how many 'exclusive' type environments (RSL clubs etc) have signs saying that singlets and thongs are not acceptable attire to go and sit and eat a pile of fish and chips in or play the pokies. However a truly exclusive club like an airline lounger has nothing. If you turned up in just a pair of speedos would you be allowed in? I guess it comes down to the DYKWIA factor - that any slob who flies enough or pays for a membership can get into an airline lounge and the staff have no directive to exclude.

I must say I hate sitting next to big blokes in singlets on the plane - every time they expose their hairy underarm I get a huge whiff of BO and/or deodorant. At least the glabrous women are normally a little more pleasant to sit next to in their sleeveless tops. I don't like thongs - haven't worn them since I was about 12 but I'd prefer someone on a plane with them compared to Mr Foot Odour who peels his stinking shoes and socks off once the seatbelt light goes off!

In the HKG CX Lounge a few months ago there was a woman in her 30's wearing something along the lines of the picture below. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get a photo as I was blinded by the colours.......

Such a kaleidoscope.. tripping back to the 70's
We had curtains in our house similar to the dress in that 70s era.. . Talk about retro styling

That's not correct Warks.
1.2 Each Member of the Qantas Club is responsible for complying with, and ensuring that their lounge guests comply with, these Terms and Conditions and the Club Rules.
10.7 Smart, casual dress standards apply at all times. Individual lounge managers will have discretion to administer these standards as they reasonably deem appropriate in the circumstances.
