Hi Fleetz

Just wondered what month you are travelling. I am transiting (arrive 7am ex MEL leave 11.45pm to LHR) in July and should (i hope) have a trip report on what I found. Or maybe you could post some of your experiances for us.

As they have said there are several options and reports in AFF to fill in 16 hours. Also the other lot, Flyertalk dot com, have other reports etc. Comments like get an octupus card and the train is half price for day return, there is a great outlet shopping mall, citygate, close and even a 1 hat dim sum restruant...

There is the new(ish) QP to try (if you have access) so take it easy  and try the dim sum for breakfast.

Just some feedback.

Currently sitting in the Regal Club Lounge at the Regal Airport Hotel in Hong Kong. The best advise I got was to get out of the airport. Thanks for you input I could have been stuck in a transit lounge if it wasn't for your suggestions.....great! Appreciated!

Had a slight issue checking our bags all the way through to Cairns. At checking at Heathrow Qantas could not see our CX flight which I had got them to link a month or so earlier. I could see the linked flight on my qantas frequent flyer account so I know it had been done but check in at Heathrow couldn't.

The lady at LHR checkin was saying we had to pick our bags up and re check them in at HK.........I insisted that it was all prearranged and that it could be done. I even had to inform the lady that there is a 48 hour baggage holding capability at HK airport. Anyway I insisted that is has all been arranged and she finally got her manager over who sorted it out.

So we decided to book a club room at the Regal Airport and use that as a base for the day. We went into Hong Kong on the airport shuttle for a few hours and then had our hotel have a catch snooze, shower etc. I got a 8am to 10pm club room for 2 with breakfast, club access with all it's privilges, free wifi, 2 X 15 minute massages which my wife turned into a 30 minute one all for 1628HKD incl all taxes.

If you book ask for a Club Deluxe refurbished room which I got from a tripadvisor report. No problems they accomodated and very comfortable and really nice room.

I would recommend this place if you have as we have a 18 hour lay over for the money it is a steal!

Thanks agai for all the input from each member here.

Regards,

Fleetz

Glad it worked well.

Your issues at LHR with check-in would probably been avoided if you had in your possession at the time of check-in a printed copy of the CX e-ticket showing the CX Ticket Number. This makes it easier for all.

You cannot rely on simply 'linking' the bookings

Welcome to my life ;)

Oh yes for sure +1 here. Plus, if you take things out of the (eastern) Australian context where any sort of international travel (other than NZ) is a decent length trip, in a lot of parts of the world (HKG and most of asia included) international travel for some can be no different to travelling between Sydney and Melbourne for a day or overnight trip.

I find immigration (and customs) to be a breeze in most Asian airports.

As an example - I entered one country for just 12 hours. I was then departing to the same city I had flown in from... In Australia, or New Zealand, they would likely ask me weird questions as it is a suspicious itinerary. In this country the question was "How long as you staying for. So you aren't staying for your Birthday" (it was in 4 days from when I arrived). I said no, and the immigration officer then sad "Such a shame." and I was stamped in).

I think my shortest visit to Hong Kong has been 20 mins! Granted I have biometric entry/exit to Hong Kong, so aren't really scrutinised, but I doubt the response from agents would be any different. (eg entering from Macau I had to use an agent, and they blinked when they saw my entry history, but didn't comment).

So glad AFF could be of service - and doubly glad that you did get out of the airport! By now you should be home and fixed - so welcome back!
