What is the 'sweet spot' for Qantas FF status?

I do the flight to the UK often and haven't used the arrivals lounge ever. Can you tell me more about it please?

I think you have to be flying F or J to access T5 arrivals lounge not sure about T3 - maybe emerald gets you in there I am sure others will know. I haven't been to T3 arrivals loung although Miss FM said it was fine for a shower and a bite to eat. T5 has a huge no of showers a nice selection of food and you can even book a spa treatment. I find it excellent for freshening up and having a quiet read until a more sensible time. If flying F into terminal 5 there is a separate little restaurant with table service within the main arrivals lounge, but the food didn't look all that much different to what you can get outside. You go through immigration and collect your luggage and then find the lounge - it is quite big.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately as I am probably only going to get around 1,000 SC in my next membership year, so do I try and scrounge up another 200 to retain WP or drop to gold. :). My feeling is gold pretty much gives me everything I need - if something goes wrong I have some level of status, so hopefully things will get sorted out. Sapphire gives access to lounges in the USA ( where flying F doesn't) and you get a reasonable multiplier on points - almost as good as WP. We tend to fly at the pointy end, so lounge access is not an issue. I think if I flew Y, then WP might be a better goal than SG, as the F lounges in places like Sydney and Hong Kong are just wonderful. Visited the Wing F lounge in Hong Kong for the first time recently and liked it :)

When flying domestic I think Gold should be enough, you get QP lounge access and reasonable seat selection.

When flying international Platinum is a must for using the premium lounges. The F lounges at MEL, SYD, HKG, NRT, LHR & JNB are too good to be missed.

Serfty, this may be a bit off topic but having never done a status run option before, who out there in AFF land could help??
I had SG for awhile but got really sick over an extended period which bought all my travel to a halt. Consequently, I slid right right down to NB.
Am now SG but wondering whether I could accelerate my "comeback" to SG.

It depends I think upon which airline you are talking about, IMHO gold for QF is worth it for the dollar spend, however if with AA I think that EXP is the way to go, this is because the benefits of AA EXP far outweigh the benefits of QF WP IMHO and complementary upgrades and 8 free system wide upgrades on AA metal are worth chasing each year, plus AA miles go further.

interesting thread. just stumbled on it. thanks everyone

NB is the sweet spot post the fairer enhancements
Leave QFF and credit to someone else?
