What is Virgin Australia's flagship route?

I realise this is a joke, but I was actually thinking along similar lines.

I just flew CBR-MEL in J and the flight was perfect. Good lounge in CBR, pre-departure sparkling wine, functional wifi, great service on board, a nice meal and an on-time arrival.

I don’t think it gets much better than that with VA. If I’d flown an international route there would have been no lounge access and I would have got pretty much the same meal on board + an extra dessert - but would have had to sit in that seat for many more hours.

So I think you may be onto something.

I guess a better question would be... if you were VA and you wanted to show off the best that your airline had to offer to someone important, which route/flight would you send them on?

I actually think somewhere like MEL-OOL or MEL-BNE in Business class would do the trick. You want a flight that's long enough to enjoy the meal, a coffee and maybe an extra alcoholic drink and something from the "pantry", but any longer and the fact that there's only one meal service on one tray becomes noticeable. So Virgin is at its best, I think, for flights of 90 minutes to 2 hours.

A flight that was cancelled (many are!) and rebooked onto a full service carrier

I'll have a go at bit of seriousness, could say to Queenstown, but I'll kick in AUS - NAN.

Ripper close holiday destination that appeals to many, non Bali bogans more importantly.

Talking to the crew on the MEL-NAN flights is always fun, it's a hard flight, full of families and lots of kids, but the one night in Fiji makes up for it almost.

The DPS flight is even harder work.....

Funny that, I heard exact same on this morning's flight, crew telling other crew how much they love the NAN trips. They go for drinks there in evening as return flight late arvo following day.

We'll be returning on VA mid August from NAN in J so see 1st hand.

I imagine it's very family, kids a plenty & our 2 to add to the chaos, ha.

No particular route stands out for me but if I had to choose one, I would go with BNE-CNS. Departs from their primary hub, long intrastate route with half a dozen or so daily flights, biggest operator on the route (Qantas sometimes matches frequency admittedly, but with smaller aircraft) and from personal experience a particularly enjoyable experience with great Queensland-based cabin crew.

Not so good in the opposite direction with the lack of a lounge at CNS these days but one can dream!

If I had to choose one I would guess that their flagship route might now be possibly BNE-ADL provided its operated by a B738 in 2-class config with IFE /WiFi and divider (proper lounges on both ends, main hub being BNE) and long enough to enjoy a J class meal but not so long that you realize how far downmarket the airline has gone since Covid and not long enough to remember how bad any seat in a B738 is for more than 3-4 hours and for all your devices to not run out of batteries.
