Considering the law requires you to give way to pedestrians at all times and in all circumstances, you'd be the one in the wrong if you did hit him. He might be stupid, but that doesn't give you the right to be rude when you're the one breaking the law.

Incorrect I am afraid. Pedestrians are required to obey the road rules. They do not have right of way just because they are pedestrians.

E.g. they must not cross at the lights if ‘don’t walk’ is showing. Or step out in front of a vehicle and expect it to brake.

The exception (as noted by @suze2000 above) is a driver is required to give way to a pedestrian crossing a street that the driver is entering.
