A quick poll.

What's you preferred method of status earning?

1. Number of stays
2. Number of nights
3. Base points
4. Status Grant?

Re: What's your preferred method of status earn?

Well, my _preferred_ method would be number of nights ... the reality is that Hiltons are not everywhere and I sometimes can't stay at them anyway - so I have to rely upon spending money when I am at one to re-qualify.

Re: What's your preferred method of status earn?

0. status grant :p

Other than that - 2 - nights ...

Oh doesn't that annoy you?

Serfty, can you add that to the poll? It's so true!

Also the text should perhaps not read "preferred" rather "what is your method of achieved status earn"......I'll leave it up to your wise judgement ;)

Re: What's your preferred method of status earn?

I prefer Base points - I would much prefer earning Diamond status with 20 - 25 nights at the Conrad in HKG than 50 nights at HOP... (the associated SCs and points on QF by going to HKG would also be a bonus ;))

Re: What's your preferred method of status earn?

I prefer Base points -

Like you, I'm base points....but that term I used "prefer" really sucks. I'd prefer No. of stays.......possible $ value around $2.5K for diamond. Reality for me, with little business travel and a family of 5 (6 with oldest's +1), is base points @ $10k.........:(

Re: What's your preferred method of status earn?

My hotel stay is pretty much 100% business so I would like to be working for a business putting me in the Conrad ;)

Definitely Base points for me. Although Diamond until 2014 courtesy of VA, I think I'll manage to keep at least Gold on Base points if current travel patterns continue

Re: What is your method of achieved status earn?

Till now it has been done by nights - so that's how I voted.

But just about to take up the Gold offer from Velocity.

Re: What is your method of achieved status earn?

Last year I achieved it on stays but not nights or base points - it was a very difficult trek of hotel hopping in US cities and it wasn't fun.

This year, as I'm travelling for 3 months this year, it's going to be Diamond on base points first (I'm halfway there just from the last three weeks!), on nights next, and then I'm not sure I'm going to be making it on stays, as I'm not hotel-hopping this year.

Re: What is your method of achieved status earn?

I'm a Diamond through status match and I would like to maintain it. Stays are the best way to do this, but it means a bit of messing about.

As a footnote my response would be different if I was achieving or maintaining gold.

Please do tell. I am a status matched gold and am looking at fully understanding the program so I can stay that way. Any hints from an experienced hand such as yourself would be greatly appreciated

Thanks :)

It has been a pain but my Hilton nights are one at a time. In the UK a week is Bromsgrove, NEC, Bromsgrove, NEC, Bromsgrove, NEC, Warwick for example. It suits me because it gives me 7 stays for seven nights and 7000 QFF points too. It is a pain because I am packing and repacking. In retrospect I probably didn't have to do this because I'll probably hit 100,000 base points anyway......but at the start of the year that didn't seem likely. Year to date I am at 37 stays and 45 nights...I have relaxed my strategy since re-qualification.

The 36 nights or 16 stays for Gold status...or even 60,000 base points would be relatively easy for me to achieve based upon my current travel patterns, whilst also allowing me to maintain Priority Club Platinum too.

Thanks! It just goes to show how nuts 'we' all are
I reckon I can use that tip. But only travelling by myself. :) Not sure that anyone else in the family would come at it. I have just managed to get Mrs N opening multiple credit card accounts and travelling to places via one or two other places. Not sure she would be up to moving like that. I of course would.

Thanks again for sharing your experience with the program

I have another window open looking at Hiltons in California. I reckon I can make a case for a different one every night there though as we will be moving around a bit

Haha.. I think Mrs N will see through your strategy after about 2 nights...

and we will be getting in that long planned game at Pebble Beach

Re: What is your method of achieved status earn?

I just made Diamond this year on base points, would only have made gold on nights and only silver on stays.

Re: What is your method of achieved status earn?

Mine has ended up being the base points over 100k.
Which is a bit annoying for two reasons = 1) I don't really like the idea of spending USD$10k on hotels and 2) I did some hotel hopping to get past 28 stays that it turns out I don't need.

Re: What is your method of achieved status earn?

I got Hilton Diamond via a status grant and by the end of the year I will have 10 nights/stays which I think is enough for Silver.

I will try to stretch that to Gold for next year but Diamond would almost be impossible unless I found an employer willing to sponsor.
