Qantas
Gold
Inspired by a thread on flyertalk for BA, thought I would pose the same question for Qantas. What do we think Qantas will do/will happen to them in 2025.

A few openers from me:

* CR in domestic J will become very hard to find apart from late night flights.
* A big announcement about J catering improvements - which will be a return to pre departure beverage of water and water.
* They will wet lease or buy aircraft from another airline as they finally admit they cannot maintain their current schedule with their A380 reliability issues.

Nice one! Here are my 5 cents.

*Revamping food offering in domestic QF Clubs
*Stop issuing single QF lounge passes to reduce amateur hours in lounges
*Relaunch the Amex Ultimate Qantas Card to award Status Credits based on hitting spending threes-holds (refers to newest VA Platinum Amex).
*Lower Platinum for Life to 35,000 SCs (to align with BA Gold for life - one can dream)

A good thread to express our wishes and probable “enhancements”.

1. QF will take the JQ787s back under their wing as JQ goes completely Y with A321N.
2. A220s will prove to be more unreliable than the B717s thanks to industrial issues
3. More Asian wet lease flights to free up fleet to combat QRs footprint
4. Project prop will be kicked off to look at ATRs to replace the Q400s

Sounds good. I am a believer that the initial LTP target was set artificially too high in a first step, as a way to lower it down during the next program enhancement. I can't imagine the current target has any incentive effects,u nlike LTG that many are chasing. Time will say.

* 321XLRs launch mid-year and there will be complaints about the lack of IFE. Qantas won't care, and might even announce the refurb of later 737s to remove IFE
* International WiFi launch will be pushed into 2026 (ViaSat3 launches looking like late 2025)
* Another billion dollar plus profit, and exercise of options on 321XLRs

Don't see any new aircraft beyond the 321s and 220s scheduled and the return one one additional A380

I'd love to see a new chef get involved, particularly since Perry and the Rockpool Group have been involved since 1997 and Perry himself is now retired

I don't know why they even need anything like that.
The only places I've heard of any of the "famous" names Qantas throws around, like Perry, are in Qantas marketing.

I don't see JQ sending the 788s to QF until the 321XLRs arrive. In 2029.

They have new 787-9s and -10s due to arrive starting in 2027. Maybe some more A330 leases to cover the issues until then.

Qantas have been using a strategy copied from many airlines with Perry creating the F tasting menu eg

Air France- Emmanuel Renaut has been entrusted with menus for La Première (first class) on flights departing Paris

ANA - The Connoisseurs programme, including Toru Okuda, Yoshihiro Takahashi, Ryuta Iizuka, Masayasu Yonemura and Hideki Takayama.

BA Tom Kerridge creating a gourmet range for the airline’s High Life Café.

Delta Italian-American fare from chefs Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo

Japan Airlines Sky Auberge BEDD by JAL ‘restaurant in the sky’ features Hideki Ishikawa, Kouji Koizumo, Shuzo Kishida, Jun Mishina, Shinobu Namae, Daisuke Hayashi, Ryuji Teshima, and Yuya Yamanaka.

If they switch to a revenue model for SC earn, they could at the same time lower the LTP target and perhaps also require the bulk of the LTSC need to be on QF marketed and operated flights.

In 2025 QF will announce project speedy sunrise. It will be non-stop flights from SYD to LHR and NYC on a yet un-designed super-sonic jet that will do the trip in 3 hours. The announcement will state this first flights will be in 2032 but in typical QF fashion will be delayed for two decades. In the interim the NP weeds especially designed to maximise your health on the flight will have wilted, but this will be announced as an additional enhancement.

UA beat them to that. 2029 is not that far away….
