We are back in LOTFAP in about 6 weeks and to disguise ourselves we can just fit in at In-N-Out Burger as it is a big crowd.
It is a bit hard to speak Canadian as they are "oot there".

Seriously though, I refuse to stay in an establishment under 3-3.5 stars. A clean bed and bathroom are 110% essential. As a rule, I only stay at major chains, or highly recommended boutique properties (and indeed the boutique properties are substantially better than most chains as a general rule, but I have been burned in the past)

Hmmm .. that's as good a reason as any (along with any other Australian sporting telecast) to avoid such places like the plague.

Don't try to keep up with the locals, especially if it's sojhu and beer on a Friday night in a Korean bar.
Don't eat it if it's still moving.
Don't offend your hosts by refusing flat out to eat local delicacies, such as raw fish that has been fermented in yoghurt for 3 months. Come up with a creative excuse why you can't eat it. (I wish I had!)
If there's alcohol involved and something seems like a good idea at the time, don't do it.

First rule is most important. If you break that, in my experience it can quickly lead to breaking rules 2) and 3). But if you do break 2) and 3) smother both said items in lots of chilli. And remember it makes a great story to tell later.

1. Don't fly to any country that's cold.
2. Always fly to a country that's warm, preferably in Asia. If in doubt refer to 1.

Unless you live in place that always warm (and 80% humidity), especially in Asia. In that case just fly to any country that is cold (and not in Asia).

I will not pay for any food or drink via buy on board. It's either free or I'll go without.

I avoid eating beef steak as much as possible outside of Australia and New Zealand. The only exception that springs to mind immediately is South Africa. (Note I said beef steak, not beef in total, which I'll still eat). Main reason is because outside of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, not a lot of people know how to cook a steak decently (most overcook, so you get a dry tasteless shred or the sole of a boot). Same thing in the air (yes, some airlines do a good filet in the air, but unless the alternative is rubbish I'll not take the chance, even though, yes, I could always send it back).

I will not drink Fosters.

Although I'm fairly open minded in the culinary sense, I'm pretty timid eating any meat outside of the standard mainstream selection. Ditto that even more for seafood.

I often only drink bottled or filtered water. No matter where I am, I very rarely drink water from the tap (and at a minimum, I will boil it).

I often insist on carrying my own bags. I rarely rely on porters or anyone offering to take a bag for me, and will often decline offers.

Always be polite and respectful of other cultures and traditions.

When I was in Santorini I was told to carry a folded local paper under my arm. The hawkers left me alone after this.Maybe they interpret this as " been here a while " ?

Don't go and buy new shoes and then try and wear them in by walking from the Star Ferry terminal near the IFC to the Peak in Hong Kong. Or at Hong Kong Disney. Or on the plane home. I had a rather awkward incident before landing where I tried to put my shoes on after I'd taken them off before I went to sleep and there was me, mother and a FA trying to get the shoes back on my feet which was a bit awkward. I was on antibiotics for a couple of weeks as a result of all the maladies incurred as a result of all that.

Never go to Harbour City in Hong Kong with a charge card that has no pre-set spending limit.

Always say you're deathly allergic to foods you don't like to eat. Even go as far as to say that eating said food you don't like could kill you.

Never have ice in your McDonald's drink, who knows where that ice is stored/where it came from?

Always have access to an airport lounge. First lounges are preferable, but failing that, Business lounges are adequate.

And finally, never, ever, EVER travel with someone who lies to the attractive blonde flight attendant by telling her they're a doctor in aid of trying to impress her. It becomes a bit awkward when someone gets life-threateningly ill down the back, and they have to explain to her that they can't assist because they're not a doctor, but a first year commerce student. Trust me, you don't get your first meal choice unless by coincidence.

Other than that, go gangbusters!
