Can anyone confirm if you can use the Qantas Business lounges in Melbourne (and Sydney) as the Qantas Club lounges in these locations are currently closed? The website seems to indicate you can?

Solution
Yes the Qantas Club is still closed in MEL and SYD. I used SYD Business lounge yesterday and the day before, and the MEL Business lounge yesterday. Normally entitled to Qantas Club.

Note - the SYD Business Lounge is getting quite busy now. The times I’ve used it over the last couple of days were much busier than a couple of weeks ago at similar times.

Didn't realise the QANTAS Club in MEL was still closed. That should make it easier than I thought for me to get in to the Business Lounge as a Gold flyer (I thought I would have to be guested in by a friend travelling on the same day to a different destination).

I wonder if a complimentary invitation suffice?

A few of us have had issues linking lounge passes to flights originating in MEL.

Speaking generally about lounge invitations at any QANTAS Club, complimentary invitations are always subject to lounge capacity limits. If the lounge is likely to be very full those are the first to get turned away. So best to avoid peak travel times (e.g. when business commuters are most likely to fly).

With international when that comes back to maximise chances off peak travel times of the year and/or less busy days would be best.

The QANTAS Club is still closed here in MEL. With no international I don’t feel like I’m missing out on a lot at the moment as a SG

An SG travelling Domestically out of MEL currently gets to use the Business Lounge in T1.

Yes. That’s why I don’t feel like I’m missing a lot compared to having Platinum at the moment. Can still select row 4 at T-80 and use the same lounge I would have had I had WP still.

Surely we can't be too far away from the MEL QP opening again?

Was back here again this morning and - frankly - it was a zoo.

Arrived 30mins before my boarding commenced to be greeted by a queue to the top of the escalators due to everyone scanning their BPs at the one point ... into the J Lounge itself and although there was available seating the queue for coffees stretched all the way around the bar and almost back onto itself. The delightful Mxx_x was serving everyone as fast as she could and the second machine was put to use to offer long blacks only but it still took at least 10 mins to be served. Incidentally, in this contactless new-normal, who thought it a good idea for the Lounge to stop using Skip to order coffees (or did I miss their going bust)?

Frankly, I gave up joining the queue to the hatch for cold toast (my experience from last week) which stretched back to the walkway and unwisely decided to chance my hunger to the "delights" of the morning's 604 Y breakfast offering - "toasted ham and cheese" it wasn't !!

The At Terminal Parking appeared to be getting back to normal and whilst the ramp wasn't as full as pre-covid, it was certainly the busiest I've seen over the last couple of months ... about time the Lounges at MEL caught up!!

Regards,

BD

Hopefully they will open the QP soon. I will miss the J lounge when travelling solo. I can't justify going for WP again until I can travel internationally again.

I wonder if using Skip cost them money and stopping using it was a cost cutting measure?

Also I found the staff didn't always notice Skip orders when they had that. Plus the printer is another thing staff would need to touch to keep working.

See:
I've been trying to link complimentary passes to an upcoming Jetstar flight ex-Melbourne, but Melbourne isn't available as a departure location from the drop down box of the Jetstar pass linking section of the website so I rang Qantas to query this.
As others have noted (and also detailed on the Qantas website) the Melbourne Qantas Club is still closed but the Business Lounge is open and is being made available to travellers who qualify for lounge access - except it seems complimentary pass holders. :(

Another quirk I noticed with the pass linking page is that the 2 P1 passes I had didn't show up in the dropdown box of my available passes for linking - anyone have any idea why that would be? My General passes did.
