Hi folks,
I have 150,000 points in FF, and 350,000 in Amex. I want to take self and family (wife plus 2 kids) to USA and back, or perhaps round world. With QFF, RTW is 130,000 - thus 4 people = 520,000 points. I'll have enough for this soon enough. BUT - somewhere I thought I heard that if I transfer the Amex points to another program (AA?) I can go further (or use less points) than Qantas. The objectives of the RTW trip are to get to Denver in USA, and London with perhaps a European stopever / side trip.
Any suggestions, or should I just dump all the Amex points into my FF account? I'm FF Gold. If I can do the itinerary for less, I'd then be able to use some Amex points for Hilton and perhaps save some dollars on the accommodation front too. Maybe just dreaming...
Thanks.
Gary

American Express Membership Rewards points on an Australian credit card account can only be sent to the following partner programs:
  • Hilton Honors
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich
  • Priority Club Worldwide
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Starwood Preferred Guest
So that does not leave you a great deal of choice if you want a RTW airline reward. You could transfer to Starwood and the from there to AA, but the points devaluation is significant.

Also note that from today Qantas are offering a promotion where every point you earn or transfer to your QFF account earns an entry to win one of six Lexus vehicles (2 drawn each month from April through June).

And getting multiple reward seats on the same flights can be a challenge, especially if you want business or first class awards. Having QF FF status (Gold or Platinum) provides better availability of award seats. I managed to get a party of 7 on RTW award seats on the same flights with a combination of booking early and having Platinum status.

Thanks - that's helpful! I'll stick to economy and take the kids (talk about sacrifice!)
Here's to a new Lexus.....
