What QF Flight numbers do not allow lounge access?

This (my bolding in your quote) is highly unusual as you would have been booked on a JL flight number rather than QF codeshare (I don't know if QF even codeshare on JL metal LAX-TYO)

If you actually had Qantas Club, rather than OWS/OWE, you shouldn't have been permitted access under the rules. Bank error in your favour.

I am Bronze - no status in any FF scheme. Just got lucky on the day I suppose (it was a J OWA - does that make a difference?)
