I swear by Melatonin. I avoid prescription sleeping tablets.

i tried that, and i only slept for 1 hour on a 10 hour flight. i felt a bit nuts desparately wanting sleep when i arrived in singapore with a 5 hour sleep. I found the day hotel and slept for 2hours.

Usually I'm up all night (the night before departure) packing and doing last minute things, and I'm off to sleepy-land about 5 minutes after take off. Works every time!

Yeah, actually turning up tired after no sleep (whilst not recommeded) can actually help you sleep. Stay away from the prescription drugs. I actually find those neck pillows are actually really good to sleep with - just get ones with the string/buttons that close the pillow, some of the flimsy pillows just slide off so easily.

Once you go through security, buy two bottles of water. You can never have enough of it.

And when you get to the gate, don't sit down. It is amazing how many people wait for boarding sitting down for 30 minutes or so - walk around the terminal as much as you can.

A bit off topic, but we have been told to use Vicks for our daughters coughing.
But get this, they say rub the Vicks into their feet and put socks on them and they will sleep soundly (and stop coughing).

Now, I thought this was a load of cough, but damn me, it actually works!

So there might be some good use for it to assist sleeping on an aircraft.

Not sure about the other passengers having to put up with the smell in the cabin though..

Not a load of cough, it's easily absorbed and goes up through the blood stream. However the oil in Vicks isn't the best quality. Menthol isn't the best oil for cough either. Different types of infections and coughs. Can simply take garlic to rid the infection and help open up the airways a bit, just like onions. No messy feet or need to wear soaks, but one hell of a killer breath for sure!

Best bet is to get the pricey organic ones, but they're good value for money.

You don't want to know the most direct and absorbent point on the human body. You won't believe that one (no, not the mouth or under the tongue, but it's most common besides back of neck and knee), you really will believe it's a load of...well cough! :p
