Today I'm doing a status run to Cairns from Brisbane, just flying return with
a flexisaver fare ($630 return = 60 points). Normally this wouldn't be a wise status run but I've got a day left of my double SC offer, so will get 120 points. I might have got better value flying elsewhere but I wanted to go to Cairns and have a few coughtails on the esplanade on the last day of 2012. I've upgraded to J on the return leg so can get some predrinks in before going to a party in the valley direct from the airport.

Since I have 5 hours in Cairns, anyone have any must-dos? My only plan at this stage is lunch and a few drinks by the water.

Also, what toiletries do you get in the QP showers these days? It's been a few years since I used the domestic ones.

Re: Cairns Satus Run

You could hire a car for 4 hours take a drive out to the beautiful beaches (20 mins. or so)or even Port Douglas (1 hour each way), I'll be at Sebel Reef House (at PD) mid afternoon sipping drinks :D.

If not driving walk along esplanade out to the Pier, have a drink at the bars there (Pier pub is good), if lunch try Mondo's right on waterfront next to Hilton (reasonably priced too).

Its raining today so pack a small umbrella.

QFF lounge is rather nice too in CNS.

Re: Cairns Satus Run

Thanks. I lived in Darwin a few years ago and frequently flew BNE-CNS-DRW so I know the CNS QP well. Did some intl trips ex CNS as well. Never left the airport though!

I don't really want to drive today, the point was to see CNS itself, I've spent a lot of time in FNQ and the NT just not CNS.

I was actually planning on the Pier pub, so thanks for confirming that. I've been told CNS is a lot like DRW so I should feel right at home.

BTW, never used an umbrella in DRW (even in monsoon) so don't plan to start today. Thanks for the advice though!

Maintain gold. I've been gold for about 7 years, but would have been about 100 points short this year. I have until Apr 1, so wasn't in a rush. Just making the most of the double sc offer.

Re: Cairns Satus Run

If you still have the time to do so, grab a transport to Palm Cove and have lunch at Vivo overlooking the water. The crab linguine is tres excellent and Palm Cove is such a pretty spot. Enough time to walk across the road and dabble your feet in the crystal water.

Palm Cove is great.

I second this.
