What to do with expiring LifeMiles

Typically any extension to the expiry date triggered by account activity takes overnight to update. Buying miles for example sees the new date from the next day. I would wait 24 hours and check again :)

I made a hotel points booking (made sure it was fully refundable) and then cancelled the reservation. Points in and out of my account within minutes and the miles expiration extended another 12 months. $0 alternative to buying 1,000 miles every time.

Thanks very much for your helpful post.
Just to be clear, did you make a fully refundable booking using $$ or with miles?
Thanks in advance

Mine was with miles at the cheapest option available that was refundable which turned out to be 1900 miles at the base backpackers in st kilda ;)

Thanks to all, this appears to have worked for me as well (made a fully refundable hotel rez with miles and then cancelled. Expiry updated a few hours later). Excellent tip from Gold Member!

The ability to book hotels with Lifemiles seems to be not possible atm. :(

I used the majority of my Lifemiles to book a hotel for last weekend in the city. We had some good food and wine. I have spent 100k miles on accommodation over the last 18 months.

Anyone having issues with their miles not extending automatically despite changing their balance? My miles expire on the 31st of Jul 22 so I paid for a hotel booking using miles in late June (like last time) and my expiry has not changed yet. The booking is for Oct but I dont think that has anything to do with it.....a bit stumped.

I think it happens 24 hours after miles deposit into your account which happens when you cancel a booking.

Let us know how you go. I'm hoping they haven't patched this trick.
Well what do you know that worked!. Miles refunded in 24 hours and expiry date has now been updated. It seems so counter-intuitive but there you go. Thanks for the suggestion Pat!
