I seem to have accumulated an entire cupboard full of miniature bottles of shampoo etc (apparently a lot of hotels throw them out even if they look unused, in case they are not unused, so I hate leaving them there to be wasted, plus there really is a limit to the number of amenities kits one needs!)
I was wondering what to do with them, and remembering the night my partner ended up in emergency, I rushed to the hospital, and he wanted to brush his teeth but the shops were shut and I hadn't brought anything with me. It's pretty miserable being in hospital and not well, and worse if you can't even brush your teeth! I thought hospitals might be able to use the excess unwanted stuff I accumulate from travelling so much - sure enough, the Monash hospital is apparently desperate for such supplies - Monash hospital desperate for shoes and toiletries - Local News - News - Waverley Leader - You can find out how to donate by calling the hospital on 9594 2290 (if you are in Melbourne).
There are no doubt hospitals in other states that could use similar donations. I'm currently in the US, but I'm going to do a big purge of the bathroom cabinets and donate a bunch of unused stuff when I get home - hopefully it will make someone in hospital feel a little less awful!
