Husband and I are flying home from Heathrow to Sydney to Brisbane via Dubai on QF2 and domestic flight and are wondering what happens during a stopover? Do we stay on the plane in Dubai or do we go into a transit lounge? We assume the stop is for refuelling but will they be cleaning the aircradt too? Have flown to LAX several times but have never flown from London or Europe before and are looking forward to the experience. We have managed to use points for PE seats, so they will be a new experience too. Thanks for any help you can give

I took this flight a few months ago. The stop is for refuelling and cleaning, so you will need to leave the aircraft. I believe QF2 has a 2 hour stopover (it's normally 1.5 hours but needs to depart at a time when it will get into Sydney after the curfew is lifted). You will only get lounge access if you normally do, I.e. if you are a Qantas gold or platinum frequent flyer (or oneworld or emirates equivalent) or are a Qantas club member or are flying in business or first class.

After landing you will need to clear a security checkpoint to get into the transit area and into the terminal. DXB is a nice enough airport for a short stopover. There are duty free, food shops etc. Boarding will recommence after approx 1 hour.

By the way, welcome to AFF :)

Thanks Mattg. Am glad to learn the stop is only a couple of hours. We have only just discovered this site and so far have read lots of interesting topics.

No worries :) This site certainly does have a lot of useful information!

If you have any other other specific questions I would be happy to answer them.
