Qantas has cheap red edeals on offer - but only for travel on 8 June 08.

Anyone know why?

Could be it is the Queens birthday weekend and Sunday would be a "dead travel day" with people travelling home on the monday...................

The same thing happened on the Anzac Day long weekend. In that case the Saturday had a number of specials.

The PER-MEL red-eye must have some light sales as well (although there is nothing on special to get from MEL->PER!):

Take a break in Melbourne with this great Qantas deal on flights from Perth to Melbourne, available for departures between 1 June and 30 June, and 27 July and 21 September 2008.

Hurry! Sale ends midnight (AEST) Tuesday 20 May 2008.
Note: Valid for travel on flight QF648 only.

Perth toOne-way from Melbourne $159

The 8th of June is my birthday.... but I dont think Ms B would be to pleased to see me disappear for the long weekend. :D

I love the fact that my birthday usually falls on/around a long weekend.
However, i do prefer to spend it with the Mrs, rather than on a QF 737 to SYD or MEL....

I'd suggest QF648 is being discounted as an "anti-Tiger" measure.

Tiger hasn't been "discounting" / having many "sales" on the PER-MEL route so I'd say the yields for everyone have been good.

QF648, Jetstar and Tiger all leave PER roughly the same time.

BTW - 2 June is a public holiday in WA. All the rest of Australia has theirs on 9 June. (Don't ask me why - I'm an east coast "ex-pat" and find the locals strange too).:D

To prevent having two long weekends in a row, and to help break up the long dry spell of long weekends after June, WA has the Queens birthday late Sep/early Oct.
