Whats the best bang for $ whiskey thar you've tried or have heard of?

I am of the belief that, there is no way a $2000 whiskey is 20 times better than a $100 whiskey, especially since taste is subjective. And many of the $1k, $5k, $10k, $100k are pricey due to rarity, brand, history, demand etc etc

Is there say a $200 whiskey that blows everything $500-$100k out in terms of taste?

The best bang for buck whiskey ive tried is hibiki 21 when it was $500

The other day I saw a story about someone stealing a bottle of $62K Johnny Walker in Melb - hard to believe any bottle of Walker is worth that much

Yeah i saw that too.
The name of the bottle didnt sound very special either!

If you're a regular OS traveler, just pick up a few bottles DF (pre-order for arrival back in Oz). Unless you're in a country where the retail price is just as good or better (but you just have to pack it in your luggage).

At least with pre-order DF, you can easily get 2x 1L bottles to try and they are generally significantly cheaper than going to DMs. SYD T1 Heinemann DF has a pretty good selection and some quite decent single malts in the $100 to $150+ range. Look for specials and have a bit of an idea of the retail price before hand or just search something like DMs for idea (careful to compare 1L price with 1L price (and not 700ml retail v 1L DF!).

I wish I could say the same about Cognacs. They went beserk in pricing about 10 - 15 years ago? If you're lucky, an XO will start around $400...

You will get a better price in a Japanese supermarket. We were in the Aeon Supermarket in Asahikawa this morning and took a few pics of the whisky. JW double black. $90 om the BWS app. Here $39.

But lots of 4 litre bottles. A selection.

All $60-65. Not as cheap in the Japanese duty free stores at HND and NRT.

6000yen for 4l.jim beam is even cheaper at duty free??
But where could you take it? Well, short of having a party on a JQ flight back to Oz….(I suspect that’s been done before).

And you're well over the 2.25L allowance as well
Yes, that was my point! Use it or lose it! 😂

I’m pondering what countries will let you take 4L of “hard liquor” (as the Americans would say) in?

Now, of course they probably don’t sell 4L at the airport DF….

A few years ago I looked at all the countries limits to see which one was the highest
I think it there was some unlimited countries but asterisk. And 2.25L for aus was one of the highest
