What's the best cabin bag to purchase?

+1 for Samsonite. We have a few and they stand up well to pretty constant use. I like 2 wheel in the smaller bags.

+1 from me as well.

I like carry on bags with pockets at the front - easy place to store tickets/passports/other documents. Having to open an entire case to stow these seems inconvenient.

That's what a handbag is for ;) ;)

I don't know how guys get through life without a hand bag - but I still wont allow my husband to have a murse.

This thread has me looking at new cabin bags... must not buy another bag, must not buy another bag!

Just back form a 2 week trip to South Korea

Went with a 55cm bag that I checked in along with a 17" rollon "office" bag for laptop and items I don't want to check in, along with a 25L backpack that was relatively empty.

Unfortunately the rollon doesn't have a strap so that I can slip it on over the handle of the other bag, but I have a stretchy strap system i bought in the USA last year that accomplished that task.

Made life so easy as I could get up stairs relatively easy - 2 small bags are much easier that 1 large bag.

Having less space also made me a lot more focused on what I actually needed to bring with me.

So from this long winded story, my suggestion is a mobile rolling office - usually they are about 17" tall. I bought a non name brand off the street in the USA for around $70. Has a metal frame inside and protection on the bottom side that's likely to get hit while dragging. Handle actually feels more sturdy and easier to release than my delsey luggage, so for now am happy with the 17" rollon and back pack combo

this looks similar to the bag I bought. Caribee brand is OK - http://www.luggagegear.com.au/caribee/9562-caribee-carry-on-ambassador.html

I adore my very minimal, very reliable (and very affordable) Muji cabin hardcase. That thing has been everywhere and just keeps going.

So wish they had the 17" laptop bag version. Definitely give it a go. In japan it's amazing how many tourists by the muji bags then fill them up in store.

I spent several years working in five star hotels. The cheaper the bag the less durable. I would see broken straps, handles and wheels all the time. There would be times that I'd pick up a bag that had too much weight in it and the handle would break away. The best cases were Samsonite. I've since purchased 3 Samsonite cases of varying sizes. They've all lasted +5 years with fortnightly flights. The two wheel cabin bag is my favourite. It's light weight, sturdy and has just the right number of compartments.

Myer has a sale on now with 2 for 1, Strandbags are offering up to 60% off, Bagworld is offering up to 50% off ARGHHHHH! My head is going to explode, I am now leaning towards an Antler or Samsonite (or is it the same brand?)

The hard case lost it's case after the store lady tells me they are too hard to open up mid flight. Soft sided, 2 wheels, plain black $160 bucks. I think I'm sold :)

We have only 1 hard case rollon - and I agree, they are too hard to open up, stuff falls out ! you basically have to lay them flat. Doesn't matter what size case we are talking about. NO ONE could talk me into buying another one.

Well I know you've all been DYING to know what I bought....so here it is:

(ahem) Drumroll please.........an Antler 55cm soft sided 4 wheel (they had nothing else) cabin bag. AUD$269 - with discount down to AUD$144. It seems to like me, followed me around like an obedient pup, so we'll get to know each other pretty well over the next few months and I'll report back.

Thanks everyone!

Gotta go back and check it out... do I need this bag in my life?

And of course shes not going to put a ribbon on it, shes going to put on all her tags so they make a clacking noise as she approaches the premium line for boarding so people know to get out of the way... oh wait, or is that just my husband that seems to collect those things on his bag.

The best I've found - the kids. They carry everything... very expensive though.
