What's the current state of hot towels?

Was somewhat surprised the other day on my F flight where no hot towel service was provided. I recall a discussion many years back on how towels were removed from domestic J. But are they now not present on any QF flight at all? Has anyone had a hot towel service on a QF flight recently?

From a quick search I found -
  • 2014 - Removed from Dom J
  • 2018 - Inconsistently provided in Int J

My memory is pretty good, and I honestly cannot remember the last time I got a hot towel in QF international J! (Apart from 2020-21, I have used QFi J at least 6 times a year for a LONG time).

Haven’t had a hot towel on QF F or J since the before times (before Covid).

I doubt they will make a return.
Suspect Covid will be used as the excuse for that.

I flew business class from LAX to Sydney in December and got no hot towels. Also, no more amenity kits (with toothpaste, lotion etc) in business class anymore. Was told it's only for first class now. No pajamas either. First class problem to be sure, but the cheapest business class return fare LAX to Sydney is $14k USD. Amenity kit would have been nice. Well, I'm sure it helped Alan report that great profit to the board that helped him get his bonus. Best CEO in Australia by the length of a straight!

Don't fly QF F often, but my last flight in 2017 I'm sure I recalled the towels. Of course that fits into the timeline of pre-COVID.
Seems like such a basic thing to be missing from an F service, particularly as Asian carriers can even manage the service on a 1 - 2 hour intra-asia flight in J.

Definitely received an amenity kit and PJ's on my last international J flight, in January. The amenity kit came with a nice limited edition pouch for the 100th anniversary. Perhaps they just forgot to load them for your flight.

Have flown QF J domestically about a dozen times during these COVID times (i.e. SYD<>MEL,SYD>OOL,BNE>SYD,etc.) along with now one QF international flight in J (MEL > BNE) and have not once received a towel (be it hot or otherwise). I reckon this won't be making a return.

They didn’t have them on Dom J even before Covid though.
This isn’t a new thing.

I don’t know why you were told this on this flight.
But I can assure you that amenity kits (all) and PJs (night flights) are standard on Int J with the exception of TT.

Your flight must have had an issue with loading them.

Yep I flew J to LAX in Dec and back in Jan and got an amenity kit and PJs both ways.

Haven’t had a hot towel in years…

Can't recall having flown long hall on any carrier in J that doesn't do hot or cold towel service really. Wonder how much money this really saves.

As others have said, this was clearly bad info.. both pj’s and amenity kits received MEL to LAX this week.

Well I hope I get one on my return flight from SYD to LAX next week...it's a small thing but it's nice to have one. The amenity kit more so than the pajamas.

No great loss. They have always used the cheapest quality "towels" which were rarely damp or hot enough.
