Annual 60k buying limit maxed out and SPG 20-->25k transfer already used for this year.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Cheers.

Book accom with rocketmiles...

I was just looking at that travelodge is not too shabby $113 a night for 1000 AA miles per night.

As an alternative method, can you gift/receive miles once you've bought 60k for the year ?
How long does it take and at what cost ?

I think 60k limit include gift, but you can still get someone to transfer their miles to you at a cost.
It takes 2-3 weeks after stay for miles to post, recently scored 5000 united miles for $150 accom with their booking offer..

So can you receive any miles via transfer from another account if you've already bought the full 60k this year ?

  • Take some flights!
  • Amex or Diners Club transfers (either direct or via SPG)
  • HHonors points transfer
  • AAdvantage eShopping (perhaps buys some magazine subscriptions???)

buy priorityclub points or club carlson etc would be an easy way, though who knows how long it would take.

Yes you can receive miles from another account via share miles but the annual limit is 100,000 miles.

Is Priority Club IHG? I can't find who they transfer to..

Club Carlson looks like it takes 4-6 weeks:
Help

There's also the option of Wyndham Rewards, likely to be the 4-6 week time period as well...

Club Carlson just devalued the AA miles, was 8k for 50k CCarlson points, now only 5K AA miles, The only time I did transfer CC points to AA miles it was only a matter of days, I think that the 6 to 8 weeks gives them breathing space if they need extra time to get their act together transferring points to miles. But then again, who knows, and if it is really time dependent for you, best way is to purchase the miles.

Is there an easy way to get <100 miles without paying? Any current promotions?

Miles expiring in a few months. Need to check e-Rewards if they transfer to AAdvantage.

I've got 91K in my 'dads' name and same in my name. Can I book straight from his account in my name or do I need to transfer to myself? All bought last calender yr.

You can book for anyone.. No restrictions as far as I know ..

Rent a car? Hotel Stay? Transfer a few SPG/IHG/HH?

Although it may not be a big deal for many, the credit card being used to pay the taxes to book the flights must be the same name as the account holder where the miles are coming from. It doesn't matter who the passenger is. This is what an AAgent told me.

This means the account holder (ie a real person ;) ) must have a credit card...

I'm not sure how the situation where a minor without a cc would play out...

Interested to hear of any other experiences.

Thanks for that tip Kangol, I'll make sure my 'dad' pays the taxes.

This has normally been my experience too.
There's no way around it on line and the US call centre insists.
The one exception was through the Aus call centre when I was able to use my cc with daughter's miles, though she does trust me to use hers in any event.

The computer system has no way of knowing whose name is on a credit card as you aren't required to show them the card. If you have a credit card and you quote the number and just say the card has "Joe Smith" on it they will have no way of knowing.

All the time I laugh when websites say you must enter your name exactly as appears on your credit card - it makes no difference at all. For example I have a CBA credit card and my wife has a joint card on the same account - both our cards have identical numbers on them. Other banks issue joint card holders with a different number but CBA certainly doesn't.

Dale.

I booked my friend's and my travel from our respective AAccounts a few month's back. Used my credit card in both cases with no problem.
