What's wrong with Qantas?

The oldest of the 737-400's are spring chickens compared to some of the 767's. Outside the dodgy config, is there much wrong with the 734's?

In Y no... I personally prefer the 734s over the 738's. That said I'd also always take a 767 flight over a 737 flight any day...

I never have an issue with row four in a 734 at all, much preferable to the 738.

While I don't particulalry mind the 737-400's, I understand they have enough 737-800's on order to replace the -400 fleet, but on the downside they did defer delivery of a bunch of them back in April. Qantas mention 2011 before we start seeing the new 738's "supporting" the existing 738's on domestic ops.

(Mind you they also have enough 787's on order to replace the 767 fleet as well)

At least with the 734's, any rows 1 to 6 sold as WHY have an effective "Space+" (generally 4-6) multiplying the number of good aisle seats when compared with the 73H.

I think it all depends on personal taste and experience. I enjoy having the status and the benefits that come with status. I commute SYD-BNE almost weekly and most of the time QF are cheaper than DJ and forget JQ as they do not even bother to have a decent enough schedule. Can't afford domestic business class but QF has a monopoly and the product is not that special when starting to compare with short haul business class in Asia.

Now when it comes to international flights I think QF are overpriced and have found the service levels dropping the past few years. I recently flew SYD-BKK return with SQ and I would say the 2 airlines are fairly similar but SQ does have cheaper airfares, better schedules into SE Asia and Europe and definitely friendlier flight attendants.

For the on time arrival figures, I would be extremely surprised if figures this close would be considered significantly different statistically (I can't quite remember the stats involved). If one took 100 flights over the course of a year, it would be just a matter of luck - or not - whether 19,20,21 or 22 of them ran late (or another number altogether).
Some people just love to defy statistics. I would be extremely happy if my on time departure and on time arrival percentages were anywhere near 80%.

Then you should avoid travel on "the golden triangle" on Friday afternoons/evenings, Sunday nights or Monday mornings ... :p

Yesterdays DJ happy hours fares were $40 each way BNE-SYD in May, I checked and there was availability for BNE-SYD on Friday nights each friday and Monday morning availability to get you here at 7AM. Thats a bit of $$$ over the month!

No choice at the moment.

Unfortunately I cannot wait for DJ happy hour fares just in case they happen to have availability at the times I want to travel. I booked May/June airfares with the recent QF sale and I am now looking to book July during school holidays.

I have just given up on QANTAS.

Have shares and status, there not worth a crumpet. Earned status not a bought QClub

Ground crew and Cabin crew are always indifferent. Some over the last two years have been arrogant. Especially in Business out of LAX.

Took the cake today, with a downright rude Customer Service Manager in Adelaide even telling me to go fly VB, don’t bother me attitude.

I intend sending a written letter to Qantas management.

QANTAS have faded away considerably over the past five years.

Been looking at fares to US/Canada, Qantas have been pathetic compared with other carriers but I still had hopes of still flying with them – Today made up my mind and have now booked elsewhere. Might be only two premium fares now but they missed a further 15 as well.

Mr Dixen and Mr Joyce you have both brough the carrier down a long way from your so called Premium product.

If you don't mind me asking, what happened that was so objectionable to them that they would suggest you, an elite frequent flyer, give your money to their competitors?

Robmn, something about your post doesn't seem right, you claim to be an elite status with QF, and yet you've had a CSM tell you to fly another airline...

This coupled with you being a first time poster in a QF bashing thread... OK I know QF are not perfect, but for a CSM to tell you to go to another airline makes question your story, and \ or makes me question what you may have done first.

Can you provide details? What did you ask of the CSM? What mood where you in, what mood where they in? Had there been any major delays?

I have had quite a bit of information off this forum and have lurked for some time without joining or posting. So don't worry about a first post.

This post has been in the news so I added my frustration.

I have flown Qantas since the pilots strike back in 1989?

I will not elaborate too much on the incident. but compared the problem by mentioning VB.

Politely asked and discussed. I'm usually quite and do not confront or demand, arrive well ahead before departure.

I could relate other instances over the last two years which haven't been favourable but kept them in house. Treatment, lost baggage, baggage not arrived till the next day, bumped 3 flights yet arrived prior to the previous close of checkin.

Have sent off an email to management without reply.

They don't seem to care what happens. Why bother!

Just adding a bit more to the incident others witnessed what transpired and were not inpressed either.

Can't really sympathize if you don't want to elaborate. There are a number of circumstances in which telling you to take another airline might be a perfectly reasonable response to whatever issue you had.

In any case, good luck to you.

Can't really sympathize if you don't want to elaborate.

I agree, hard to be sympathetic without any detail. If QF are acting so bad that will induce the OP to take all business elsewhere, it would be constructive to share the nature of the complaint, as others may have had the same experience and could compare.

Sorry robmn, still haven't won me over...

Without elaborating on what actually happened we have no idea if your story is credible or not, furthermore without any actual information to go with QF = Bad we can't help you fix the problem and \ or we can't warn other lurkers about the pitfall which you have experienced.

Whilst I can understand if you don't want to post up every last detail, such as names and numbers, we need something a little more to go on to sympathise with you, or tell you that it's QF policy bad luck. For example what was the argument about? What the CSM serious when they said go to DJ, or was it said in the heat of the moment?

Long time lurker or otherwise, we need something to go on as your first few posts doesn't really help us much.
