Now that is what I call interesting work.(I don't know whether you do
yo yo ma) but the idea of an oil rig in the PNG jungle is fascinating to me.:)
True it is interesting and different everyday but even better being home! We also look after community patients who tend to chop each other up... I am getting quite good at suturing.

I guess I am one of the few who hope the price of petrol actually goes up:mrgreen:

From my experience the best simulator pilots are usually the simulator technicians.

having been in the Ansett sims I would concur....

With the Technicians at the stick the "jets " were really put through their paces....

Then again "real" pilots probably do not get too much practice doing barrel roles in Airbusses.....or flying sideways between the Melbourne Skrapers.

Those guys had bviously had heaps of preactice at "extreme" stunts.

A friend of mine did barrel rolls in the first A380 test flight, ask Dave Noble, he will confirm it :)

I work for a major Media group and my job is a bit varied.

Firstly I look after people out on the road with laptops/comms gear. I also set up at major events (see my Beijing TR) like the Tennis, F1 GP to name a couple. I've got a box full of media passes for all sorts of events over the years.

I also run training around the country for our Image system. Hence where i get most of my travel.

Currently, I am a mining engineering PhD student at UQ. Aside from that, I also do casual mining research assistant work and tutor first year engineering students in thermodynamics.

In previous working lives, I've been...
  • Small business clerk
  • Customer service clerk and salesperson at Hardly Normal
  • Door-to-door salesperson
  • Junior environmental engineering consultant
  • Engineering programmer
  • Tutor for software and chemical engineering, as well as high school chemistry, physics and maths
  • Not-for-profit society accountant

...as well as my lesser-known side jobs....
  • AU domestic status runner :p
  • SYD F Lounge runner
  • Amateur photographer
  • The Simpsons freak
  • English proofreader for sibling assignments, including dental/medical ethics
  • Five Hundred player (we are in short supply here!)

EDIT: Of course, almost everyone has a "gratis" job based on their inherent skills, interests or degrees. Mine is computer technician (mostly software, though).

Web Manager in the public service, medium-sized forestry agency. In past lives, IT Marketing coordinator, support technician, call centre support operator for ISP's, restaurant supervisor, community organisation presidents, event organiser, web designer, and human target.

Most of my travel these days is leisure as they're tight as the duck's backside with funding for training. That's a real pain for me, because all the courses and events I really want/need to attend are on the east coast and require half a metric ton of paperwork just to get half the necessary approvals.

Spare time: Amateur chef, complete with his own chef's jacket and an ever growing collection of cookbooks, high quality kitchen products and a pantry which is starting to remind me of a good spice market.

Ibid (but read science for mining). We should do a pizza at Schonell or a beverage at the graduate club sometime...!!! ;)

Ditto. However, PhD in International Business instead (completed), from another Go8 University. Now an ECR & academe.

Hi apophis21,

Is this based in AUS out of interest because I always speak to a rep with Singapore/Malaysian accent?

Last night when i rang i was sure it was an Australian accent. All i know is my friend was shocked i rang and asked to find out of some clubs were open before we moved on if they were open, he asked if i pay etc... I think he was almost sold on a patinum charge card on the spot once he heard you also get priority pass and other perks for the yearly fee.

Anyway back O/T, i think i change my job now as "Idiot who will do anything the boss can't get anybody else to do !"

My job doesn't require me to travel as such - most of my travel I pay for myself. I figure that my lack of spouse, mortgage or other major debts means I can get away with having an expensive hobby ;)

For a living, I lead up a support team for a medium-large IT security company. Aside from the travelling, I also enjoy drinking good gin/wine/champagne (duty free booze is a wonderful, wonderful thing :D).

Hi Junji,
We are based in Sydney but at the moment Im the only one that works here without an accent because theres not to many AU or NZ people that utlilise the Visa concierge, most of our calls are from SG and MY. (Not that I blame them, not really alot we can do here, unlike Amex we dont have our own travel department or many partners)

Thanks for the welcome Flashware

Five Hundred player (we are in short supply here!)

Me too! Love that game, especially 6 handed. You're right there aren't many people left playing it that we know of, I've just recently got a few mates into it and now they love it.

Long live 500!

Wow ... people still play that game? I used to love playing it (+ copious wine and good friends) for a cheapish night in - since moving to Melbourne I don't know anyone that plays it.

Used to play 500 during lunch time at high school close to 30 years ago. I don't think I have played since but still vaguely remember the game. I also like Euchre and cribbage but not many people play these card games either.

It would appear that moronic card game Texas Holdem is the latest craze....
