Some of my goals for the coming year
  • Reach 1,000,000 QFF points or as close as possible
  • Visit some countries/places I have not visited
  • Try and get my on-time performance above 50%
I could just about look forward to going to work with that type of job! ;)

1,000,000 points ..........if I stopped spending them I probably would by now.

My resolution is to (for now) maintain silver. Now and into the future.

Travel goals are like a new years resolution, but if you don't write them down then there is a good chance you won't achieve them.
1. Travel on some new aircraft types, eg, Fokker 70 and or the 787.
2. Retain Qantas Platinum, although I only need to make one international PE flight booking to achieve this goal.
3. Travel somewhere for my birthday this year.
4. Catch up with an AFF member or 2 in a different part of the world. ie not Australia.
5. Finish off a trip report from last year. it's sort of travel related.
6. Go to Auckland for lunch on a charter flight, G550.

I think a trip to Japan via Hong Kong to fly on the ANA 787 in March with another AFF member would accomplish 4 travel goals in 1 go.

I was able to achieve 5 of my 6 travel goals for 2011, the announcement of the change of name from Pacific Blue to Virgin Australia was very sudden so I missed that achievement.

To try something other than economy...though its possible itll be 2013 before that happens.:D

My 2012 travel plans were set a long time ago.Today I started to think of 2013 travel.
So for 2012 it will be a mixture of another airline and some new countries as well as burning a few AA miles.

My year doesn't start until July 1.And a really long day to start with-BNE-SYD-BKK-AMM.A first on RJ and first visit to Jordan with visits to Petra and the Dead sea.
Then AMM-IST for our first visit to Turkey.Have 5 days pre and 3 days post a cruise of the Black Sea.Will visit yet another area of Russia plus Ukraine,Romania and Bulgaria.
Return flights are IST-AMM-BKK-NRT-SYD-BNE.

At the beginning of November will fly BNE-SYD-LAX to attend a conference and our first flight on the A380.Then LAX-DFW-MIA-BGI picking up a cruise to the Amazon.10 days cruising the Amazon River and our first visit to Brazil. Also stops at Grenada and French Guiana.
Flights back-BGI-DFW-NRT-BKK-SYD-BNE.
My July flights are already booked as an Aaward and plan for both of us to do DFW-MIA-BGI-DFW on Aawards.

For 2013 the plans already include a cruise from Reyjavik via Greenland to Churchill Canada. So for now I hope my trips to DPO continue so I can continue funding our travel.

drron..... Every time I read how far ahead people plan their travels, I am astounded by how spontaneous mine are by comparison.

I'm in London and I know I'll be going to the continent a couple of times before I come home to MEL. I have still no idea where and for how long yet. (may depend on me getting into a good restaurant) even my flight to London was made on the day After booking, a telephone call to my son was made. He mentioned he had no firm plans between Xmas and New Year so he was booked J with just 3 hours to get to the airport.

O/T. Son was given an op up to sit with me right through to LHR.

To enjoy the travel in 2012 as much as in 2011 (and 2010 etc) Shouldn't be hard... going to Turkey and South America for the first time... courtesy of TK (natch!) Also to Germany for the first time.. in C courtesy of Dividend Miles!

To retain Gold on NZ... and on through 2013..(unfortunately retaining GE ain't going to happen...) No problem there.. travel already planned and/or booked will achieve that..

To justify my sporting associations faith/support by performing well enough at the World Championships to feel good about the all-expenses travel sponsorship they have offered me!!!

It is going to be a good year for this (recreational) traveller....

Reason number 1-Mrsdrron really likes certainty.
Reason number 2-for this 2013 7 of the 10 cabin categories are already booked out.
Reason number 3-for our November 2012 cruise we booked the last of our preferred cabin type 3 months ago.

However there is some spontaneity in our travels. We may know we will be in NYC or Tokyo for a certain period but mostly only decide the night before what we will do the next day.In NYC our concierge can always get us a restaurant or show booking so no need to plan.

I booked my FASA (LAX-SYD) in May 2011 for travel in April 2012. If you don't book them that early they are rarely available so I had to jump in when it was offered.

You'll be pleased to know I left 1A for you if you decide to fly that day.

Now that I've had a taste of tier status I want to upgrade to DJ Gold in 2012 with more weekends away.

Also I want to redeem a return QF J reward most likely to the US in the 2nd half of the year, and possibly venture to South America.

These should keep me motivated in the office.

1. Try to retain VA Gold - thank God for double SC promos and family pooling as it becomes a slim possibility
2. Try to get 2 x J (using AA points) and 1 x PE award seat (using QF points) on the same QF flights on our trip to USA this year - with me buying PE or using (W)ASA (if only they were available)
3. Meet Bundy Bear at the Boeing Factory Tour (after our Airbus Tour catch up last year)
4. Meet up with Bossreggie at Euro in AKL during our stopover on the return leg of point 2 above

1. Fly more for work
2. Change jobs if it means 1.
3. Find an employer that will pay to fly in J (see 2)
4. Find employment that requires overseas travel (see 2 and 3)

The SYD-DRW-SYD every month for past 3 years in Y is getting a bit monotonous.

1. Retain Silver with both VA or QF
2. Reach Gold with either/both VA & QF
3. Get back into the workforce with a job that allows me to travel more & hence achieve both 1 & 2
4. Remove a few new destinations from the deepening "wish list" bucket
5. Meet as many AFF'ers as possible
6. Go to bed early , instead of browsing & posting on AFF at 3.35am  . It seriously is an addiction , isn't it !
7. Find a remedy for 6.

Hmm,

2012

1. flying for the first time in J to the US and Europe for 5 weeks in May/June...
2. flying to Bali in March
3. would like to get to Japan and Beijing in July/August
4. wouldn't mind getting to a Pacific Island in October/November

2013

1. will have enough QFF points for my next 140k OW award, so another RTW for at least 5 weeks
2. will probably do another J redemption for a 3 weeks or so
3. might take my first cruise round the Caribbean

Just got to work out which countries to include and to leave for each of the options, but would like to cover about 13-15 new countries across all this travel over the next 2 years... Maybe get over to an AFF meet up on the East Coast...

Be nice to score a work trip or two as well, but not holding breath...

Let me know if you find an extra one ;)

Continue with my new rule of never flying long haul in economy if it can somehow be avoided. My legs are far happier with me for doing so! ;)

Fly fewer miles than 2011 (almost guaranteed .. v unlikely to have a lot of work travel this year).

I'm like drron (not in the physical sense, tho:shock:). I already have my 2012 OS travel planned and am just finalisng some bookings. I don't consider / count domestic trips altho. Lord Howe Island is being considered seriously if I can find time / leave. I need to plan well in advance so that I and +1 can get our leave sorted before others at work get theirs in:mrgreen:.As posted on the NY thread
Happy NY to all. 2012 is shaping up as a big year for me travelwise with trips to London in March, KL in July, South Africa in October and South America in November already (or in the process of being) booked:mrgreen::lol:. Safe travels all!
I'm glad that I'm not the only one thinking about 2013:oops::oops:...with a trip to Seoul being considered for the first 1/2 of 2013.
Other places that I have never been to that are on my immediate radar are (in no partic. order) are Russia (St Petersberg, Moscow), Taiwan, Scandinavia, Eastern Europe, Jordan, Egypt, Maldives, an Antarctica and Alaska cruise:idea:. That's a bucket list...:p

You are not alone.

A couple of years ago I created a spreadsheet with fortnightly rows and accruing annual leave columns. I always have enough rows to look at travel ~2 years in advance and also includes travel dates and annual leave required to achieve that travel. So I know roughly when I will be going and how much leave is available at each point in time.

It helps that I know where I am going. ;) I am about to add 2014 to the spreadsheet just in case I am still working then! :p
