What's your prediction on the Australian Dollar?

We bought some British pounds at 0.5250 before our latest trip thru Bell FX and our AUD has weakened in the last couple of days. Not having been here since March 2020 we have noticed some prices have surged.
China going poorly is not helping the AUD.

Eating out has gone up... a lot.

I apologise but the dip in the AUD is all my fault. When I am about to embark on a trip and for the duration of the trip it is always weak but then as soon as I return it rallies. I depart tomorrow returning on August 8.

I think that unfortunately it is a game of darts as far as predicting the Australian dollar at the moment - there are just too many things happening outside Australia that may or may not play total havoc with it.

Are you going anywhere next Feb? If so can you please change your dates!

Similarly with the AUD/JPY - peaked at ¥109 a couple of weeks ago, but has settled back below par today @ ¥99.88

We were there, Devon/Cornwall late May/ early June.
Last visit was 2019. We couldn’t believe how expensive it was to eat out at the local pubs.
Simple battered fish & chips £18/19.
Pie if the day with chips and peas £17/18. Double that for aud dollars.
Pint of beer £8 and a glass of regular pub wine £8/9 .
Nothing fancy.

Yep, often 20+ for F&C now.

A friend on my Facebook feed put up a receipt citing the cost horrors eating out in the UK, family of 5 fish and chips was $200aud.

And I thought my $20 Barramundi and Chip deal the other week here was pricey.

I’ve been told also food in Hawaii is quite expensive now. Apparently Vegas still pretty good however!

A 6 inch subway, no extras in the US is now $12 AUD.
Sad to say a McDonalds meal deal with 2 burgers, chips and drink only $9
Eating out in the US has also got more expensive.

Noticed that the listed food prices in US, UK and EU are now pretty much same same as in Australia… only theirs is in USD, GBP and the Euro. Makes for some very expensive eating!

Depends what you mean by long term. Back in 1981 we were getting $1.30 for the little Aussie battler.
Even tipping was not unpleasant and I can remember tipping 25% at the Top of the Mark restaurant.
LOL. You can remember that far back?

When I was a post doc in the UK in '78 it was $1.707 to Sterling and 0.88 to USD.

Our best experience was being in the UK in 1976 and buying a car to drive around the UK and Western Europe for 9 months. Before we sold it the Fraser Government had devalued the dollar by 17.5%. This meant that when we sold the car for about 10% less than what we paid for it we still made a small profit when converting our money back to AUD.

Well, I just remember being in New York maybe 2010 when the AUD was parity. I had so much fun shopping. Still wear some of the clothes I bought.
