What's your Uber experience?

I agree. On the rare occasions I complete one of the surveys almost every organizations sends you for every interaction, I will never give the maximum points unless the hard and soft product delivery was exceptional. Goes for Uber, flights, hotels, restaurants and even some shops.

Although the trip advisor ratings are not the same as star ratings. The difference is expectations and does help to separate the good 2 star hotels from the bad 2 star hotels. I’ve stayed at 5 star hotels I’d rate 3 out of 5 and 2 star hotels that I’d rate 4 out of 5. Doesn’t mean the 2 star hotel was better just a better match to price and expectations.

But I do notice the loss of nuance with TA - increasingly the reviews are either 5 or 0 (or is it 1?) - IMHO a hotel has to exceptional to warrant a 5 or not worth staying in if warranting a 0. (Like Uber too I guess).

Not if uber didnt insist 5 stars is NORMAL instead of 3 like the rest of the world thinks.

Say you get a good driver...you cant rate him higher than NORMAL??
The difference is that Uber is not saying what is “Normal”. However the hint is visible in the star ratings. The vast majority of drivers and riders have ratings in excess of 4.8 meaning mostly 5 stars with some 4 stars.

In the Uberverse a 3 star is actually bad and likely to get evicted and a rating less than 4.7 not as bad but puts riders and drivers into the second class category

For me a normal ride is 5 star and superlative service = $tip

I think of the star rating as a demerit system. Normal is 5, any infractions or poor service gets a star or two or more deducted

Unfortunately the Uber rating scheme seems to have spilled over into expectations in other areas. I had an employee who like 80% of the company received a 3 in the annual performance review and absolutely exploded. Only 15% get a 4 or 5. They way it should be. Not this 5 for turning up business

My previous company had the "nobody gets a 5" mentality. Total garbage.

Strangely one of the categories was ethics. Everyone gets a 3. You can't just be a little bit ethical. Either you're a 5 or a 1.

I am very against this rating system.

A good experience last night. The guy waited until I put my seatbelt on before taking off and actually asked if it was on. No radio or music - I like silence. Also main road to my place was closed due to roadworks and was very happy for me to direct him through the back streets - he even got a tip which I rarely do

you dont book a 5 star hotel and get a Best Western type room.
If you book 5 star you want the best...not NORMAL
If you book a 5* you want a normal 5* room as per the booking, not expect a presidential suite when the booking is a low floor no view room
If you get coughpy room with mould then demerit the 5* to 3*

Best westerns are actually very good and a BW room at a BW is a 5* in that context

I would not book an Uber and expect a limousine service

Doesnt matter how many stars the hotel has If I got a mouldy room I would demerit the 3 star "NORMAL" rating I would give down to a 2 or 1...if I could be bothered at all.

Wasnt bagging Best Western either...just using it as mid level example.

I'm normally a $20 uber from the airport, but I recently reserved an uber at 4:00 AM for a 6:00 AM flight and it was $35. I guess that is made up of the $5 booking fee and a higher base fare due to the time of day. I'm looking forward to the PER train line opening soon

IME taxis also have a surcharge between 11pm and 5:30am. It is easy to co pare costs though as taxi app now gives you a fixed price up front too, book both and cancel the higher priced one within a minute for no penalty.

Although the taxi app is cough, the gps tracking doesnt work, on uber and didi etc you can more accurately see how far away the driver is.

So Uber Rewards are ending, shame as this was good for about 400 QFF a month, will be interesting to see what the new rewards program offers instead, its looking like uber eats discounts which are of no interest to me, would prefer to keep double (sometimes triple) dipping on the QFF (credit card, uber rewards and airport trip bonus)

Agree with all of your points.

Loved the additional points for airport pickup and drops

2x points helped to achieve platinum quicker.

The 10% comfort trips were also really good.

UberEats - not much use to me. Unless a few of my mates get together and are in no position to leave the house :p

Now the rewards being replaced by the paid subscription service isn’t much appealing I’d say .. it’s only $10 each month, but still …

There is no replacement rewards program. It's being replaced with a subscription service.

A subscription service that is only of use if you use uber eats. I wont be subscribing and if that means other ride shares become cheaper well then all that is achieved by this dumb move is that they lost a high value customer.

I feel that uber riders and uber eats are two different markets.

Have you taken a look at the benefits? If you're such a big spender on Uber I think it would really benefit you. Namely the minimum 10% savings on rides.
