When a Window seat does not have Window

Hello.

I have noticed on most 737's that there is generally a window missing anywhere from about row 6 to row 12.

The other day I was in 11f and looked across and 11a had no window.

Even though I am over 6ft I prefer a widow as I enjoy looking at our great countryside.

Does anybody know if there is a way to find out which row is missing on the plane that I will be on? Have asked both check-in and lounge staff and they don't seem to even know what I mean.

Row 4 and 5 are fine as that is generally where they put me

Generally I book only 1-24 hours before my flight and row 3 is always taken as I book through a travel agent and can't therefore select seat on line.

All of my travel is domestic and I have platinum

Although it indicates 11F as having a "misaligned" window...

Its particularly bad on the VA A330, this is what happend to me twice:

Selected Row 10 when booking, first row of Y on one of the new birds (great legroom!).
When boarding, surprise: plane was swapped to an old bird (XFA or XFB) and in these Y starts with row 6 or 7, so there goes the extra legroom.
But worse, row 10 on the old birds has no window! So you basically got downgraded from the best Y seat to the worst one.

When it happened to me the second time I noticed the rego while boarding so already knew what I was in for, and to top it up the FA at the door greeted me with the words "Row 10, a nice window seat on the right." I replied "I don't think so!" in probably a very grumpy way, she wasn't sure what I meant and only realised once she later saw me move after boarding complete. (Load was very light so I was able to swithch to an empty middle row at least.)

I used to spot an empty window seat towards the front when I was checking in at the airport using the kiosk and I'd move to it. It was only on boarding that I realised why it was empty! A plastic view!

What are you lot on about?

Windows are a pain. Either the blind is down because of the sun, or you see a cloud. Come take off or landing however, you're stuck with the blind up and sun blinding you. The seats you describe sound like the best of a bad bunch. At least with an isle, one can spread out and nip out to the loo without hassle! An aisle seat with no window outboard???? Sheer bliss!

For those of you that may be wondering why the window is non existent, its because an air conditioning duct runs from the floor to the ceiling behind the sidewall.

Any idea why it varies on each plane, rather than being in the same place on every plane?

Cessna 180, the duct is located in the same place on all 800s, the seating layout varies slightly between the older and newer 800s.
