When did you decide to go for lifetime gold with Qantas?

Wow. When I was 18 I was a NB that hadn't done much flying and had never come anywhere close to getting PS, let alone anywhere close to LTS.

I know a couple of AFF members that reached LTG before their 21st party.

we joined the FF program in 1998 and 9 year Master FM immediately went gold. I hadn’t been interested in the program, but a friend couldn’t stand the thought of all the points going to waste, so filled in all the forms for 5 of us. I know there have been plenty of very young platinum kids on here. I think Ms FM was platinum around 18.

All 3 kids are now LTS and as Dr FM has decided she is sick of flying economy and is going to pay for J in future, I guess she will start to close in on LTG. (If she continues with Qantas).

My daughter had over 50 flights before her 1st birthday and stayed in more hotel rooms than some people stay in a lifetime.

When daughter turns 2 in September I'll be paying to take her back to SYD to visit grand parents regularly and for overseas trips the plan will be paid flights for myself and daughter and award flights for wife.

My two sons just use points to book business class seats so their SC tally would get them to LTG a little after their 200th birthdays. I doubt that they will join the rat race.
I have told Dr FM that if she is going to pay for J, she needs to look at all options and not get hooked into the loyalty game.....

Well if their parent has status, then family transfers can help with getting seats without them needing status themselves. Only really need one family member with status to have a good chance of using points.

Realistically my parents won't achieve Lifetime Gold (they don't even have Lifetime Silver), so the person who reaches Lifetime Gold in the family may as well be me.

We are just using Qantas points for A330 business class runs domestically and if there is no availability we go with the other brand on points. My sons can usually do their own bookings without status.

I’m about 1,000 SC away from LTG, but currently flying enough to just keep WP. I’ll hit LTG this year some time, and then possibly switch to Virgin. This will work better long term with family also flying, I’ll get into their WP program and be able to select a seat with leg room more than 80 hours from my plethora of domestic flights. I’m in Brisbane so only would occasionally miss the LAX F Lounge.

Hey guys,
I am a self funded FF (a Sci/Maths teacher so I pay thru the nose as well) with a huge love of flying (I got the crazy cheap QR J flights from CGK-MXP last year just to fly the dreamliner)... What does everyone do for work? Looking for a career change, even better if they pay me to fly round... I am assuming most LTG are business funded.

Thanks in advance and happy flying

Mr FM and I certainly aren’t . Have always flown for leisure and LTG just happened as part of that. While flying for work sounds nice, I am not sure it would be after awhile. Glad we never did it, as we still have our enthusiasm for flying. We have been retired for some years and before that in IT. Our youngest daughter is a Sci/psychology teacher and isn’t tired of it yet.

I think I went LTG before I ‘first’ retired in 2006. Since about 2004, I have been doing an annual DONEx, which comfortably keeps me WP and means that I am now LTG about 3x over.

Nb: My intention is never to invoke the walk of shame back to gold if at all possible, but insurance is always nice ;):D.

After many threads and discussions husband is a few sc away from LTS and I am on track for LTG however considering going for deals with whomever rather than status
Having the invitations would be handy at LTS. Considering we try to mostly fly long flights at business or occasionally first we default to getting the lounges
I wonder how the people are going who answered this back on 2016?

I didn't "decide", it just happened.

Joined QFF in 2006 prior to my first oneworld RTW trip (My first trip the year before was just around the US with a series of one ways between each stop).
Went to the old Qantas Travel office and booked an LGLOB26 (to get JL KIX-LHR as they weren't a member of oneworld yet and thus not part of the xONEx) and they got me to join and waved the joining fee (well, discounted the ticket by the same amount as the joining fee).
Got LONE4's for the next few trips.
Timing of the trips had me as either Bronze or Silver (or both) during each trip, until I started getting DONE3s combined with DAS13s in 2010.
By midway through the 2011 trip, I had LTG.

Another year should see me move past the double LTG tally..... ready for when QF announce LTP ;):p

mrsamaroo will hit LTG in the next couple of years.

Will come in handy given the amount of points we need to burn.
