Tonight I booked a flight AKL-MEL-(SYD)-BKK for December on the Qantas website using the multi city booking tool and it's come up with a Fully Flexible fare around NZD$938 which I booked.
I thought I'd call to confirm the details to ensure that I could change the dates if required or cancel they told me that it's not Fully Flexible and that it would incur a $300 fee for cancellation or $130 booking change fee for each passenger.
I'm not sure why the confirmed e-ticket and on the Manage My Booking page show that it is Fully Flexible, but the call they said i was not. Eventually after speaking to a superviso they said unfortunately it was a website error and it's supposed to be a FlexiSaver instead...but upon check the Terms and Conditions for a FlexiSaver, it still says that it is fully refundable prior to departure.
So I'm just wondering how do these FlexiSaver or Fully Flexible fares work and how are they really flexible?
What fare would I be looking for if I needed the flexiblity to change dates or cancel a part of the journey? I thought Fully Flexible would provide this, or at least the FlexiSaver. What would happen to those passengers who booked this fare and didn't think to call to confirm..then be hit by cancellation fees or higher change fees?
