I am anticipating a RTW trip (for the first time) from end of May to early July, with some meetings in Europe, USA, and Brazil. And it's not going to be pretty in wHY. Situation: we're not allowed to book the fare until all presentations are confirmed (mid March).

Noting FFers here have done numerous DONEx & LONEx trips before, could you please advise:

(1) If it is going to be real hard to book preferred flights in March, for a late May departure? and

(2) Whether Asia will be counted as a stop-over continent towards the fare when I take QF1/QF9, for instance?

Thank you everyone.

Availability depends on demand which can fluctuate.

On the question of the stopover, a stopover is any stop of 24 hours or more, anything under and its considered a transit and isn't counted as a stop under the fare rules.

I think Asia does count as a continent (but not stopover) as long as you continue on the flight.

THat is why the DONE3 is not sold exAUS and min you can buy here is DONE4.

Will totally depend on L or D class availabilty.

Two months out there's often a smattering about - you may have to compromise by a day or two here and there (or routing).

Sorry I misread it, that'll teach me for posting late at night!

The rule is if your plane lands, it is counted for the number of continents purpose, so a SYD-xSIN-LHR on QF32 for example is counted to to be three continents.

For routing purpose though, the single flight number in the above example means you have not used up your continent allowance, and thus can route like this SYD-xSIN-LHR-USA- stop/visit in ASIA - SYD

And it does not need to be a single flight number. Just needs to be less than 24 hours. So could do SYD-SIN o QF31 and SIN-LHR on BA16, for example. So long as the scheduled time between arriving in SIN and departing from SIN is less than 24 hours.

Do remember that QF31 SYD-xSIN-LHR counts as one segment (out of the 16 allowed), whereas QF31 SYD-xSIN and BA16 xSIN-LHR would count as two segments.

Yes, that is correct. But if wanting do BNE-LHR you need to segments anyway. So QF51 connecting to BA16 (or QF9 or whatever) will not consume your Asia continent stay if less than 24 hours in SIN. I have done this many times using HKG as the transit point between Europe and SWP, and stopping in Asia on the SWP-ASIA-USA direction.

Thank you all for your responses. The idea of a LONE5 sounds dizzy.

Come on mate, you are a frequent flyer and I am sure a crazy five continent routing once in a while won't hurt too much ;) :D

The idea of a RTW trip has only come about recently. The potential combat with these many time zones in a relatively short period of time is crazy ;) I am hoping this will take me to platinum before my aniversary date.
