Re: When unstated WP, WP1 and CL benefits become almost farcical to fellow passengers

I often get a nice welcome and offered the free drink on the 737 CNS BNE flight, but usually only if seated on the aisle as I usually sit in the exit row. This makes it easier for FA to be discrete. The other day the FA had my seat number wrong and was convinced the guy across the aisle was me. He denied it and I had to double check if I had sat in the wrong seat, which I hadn't. I also often fly QLink and apart from a seat toward the front, have never been offered anything on the Dash8 flights. I suppose I wouldn't want another stale corned beef and cheddar roll anyways.

Just want to add my two cents, that the CSMs on Qantas are unmatched - I recently had one offer me a visit to the coughpit on the A380 - she had no idea of my status, just seemed to value me as a passenger on her aircraft, who had an interest in aviation.

In all of this though, what keeps coming back to me is how on earth the FAs can remember who is seated where, that 30C is a WP and 84B is a SG - that I am a lowly Silver, if that even matters!

I'm not one to complain. ;)

I'm pretty much in the no special treatment camp. Having said that I did have an FA ask me about 5 times of QF1 if I wanted anything; I have no idea what to ask for and I'm pretty happy with my lot in such situations. Still I was then absolutely annoyed at no acknowledgement from staff on QF82 later in the year. Even more pee'd off by noticing the bottles of business wine being taken past me to the back of Y somewhere.

Domestically, every so often I, and a couple of others, get targetted newspaper offers in Y. I've had a J breakfast offered in row 4 on a 734. But on a much later flight I had to stare my way into a glass of J wine that was offered to the SG in 4C but not me in 4A. I stared the CSM down on his way back from the lucky person in row 6. Ironically I'm pretty sure this was the same CSM who gave me the breakfast. In fairness I did also have a beer already, but I wanted to try the wine as it was one I'd got from Epiqure.

Anyway, apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, fresh water and public health, they've done nothing for me.

As expected nothing today on the 738. Very empty flight to ADL as well.

Interesting seating though. During OLCI row four was like this (- = free, X blocked/occupied):

-XX X-- I was in 4D

Then onboard it was actually:

X-- X-X

Not quite what I was expecting unless Mr 4A was actually allocated 4C and switched to the window but I didnt see him in 4C on boarding.

Had the CSM 'meet and greet + express card' on QF128 recently, as a QF Gold.
Side note - some members of a Aussie soccer team were travelling in Y (might have been the B Team), had their drinks cut off, lol.

They've bled us white, the coughs!

You're being mischievous. In fact I'd go so far as to say you're a very naughty boy.

They check the passenger manifest from time to time I would imagine, which lists status.

...and in some cases they just know who passengers are!! :p

Re: When unstated WP, WP1 and CL benefits become almost farcical to fellow passengers

Domestically, I've never received any special treatment as a WP.
Internationally, I always get at least a greeting from the CSM (and an amenity kit from J if I ask).
Curiously, I've also been greeted by the LAN CSM when flying AKL-SCL. And on Qatar, even having zero status, I've been greeted just for being a member of their frequent flyer program...

It's amazing what you notice when you're roamin' a lot. ;)

Domestically: tell mr/mrs gbetox to lift their game - you are special! :p
Internationally: what happens on a work trip...never happened
Curiously: best stay in the closet
And on Qatar: "So you're the one!"

This is my experience. Although sans amenity kit as I have never asked for one. I should do that in the future. I usually get NC headphones.

Since becoming WP a bit over 3 years ago, about 100 flights (80% domestic, mainly Y)... nothing in the way of 'special' service.

Don't get me wrong, lots of good flights, a number of Row 4 seats, but that's it.

Not complaining, but a bit puzzled by some people's frequent good fortune

Re: When unstated WP, WP1 and CL benefits become almost farcical to fellow passengers

Sometimes the extra benefits happen. Most times they do not....

Re: When unstated WP, WP1 and CL benefits become almost farcical to fellow passengers

Only a lowly WP but on two international flights last week in Y I was offered J class noise cancelling headphones and a glass of Champagne preflight. Of course I also got the effusive "Welcome back Mr Bodog - if there's anything we can do for you just let me know" - the challenge is just how far to put that to the test - what have others achieved when asking?

Re: When unstated WP, WP1 and CL benefits become almost farcical to fellow passengers

I first experienced "special treatment" on international Y as a SG - SWMBO was wanting to know what that was all about and I could only assume it was my status. Those greetings occurred on every OW airline except BA.

As a WP we have always had the greeting and a chat and goodies from J. Coming back from HNL asked for J headsets for us both and was discretely handed two under a blanket and asked to be "discrete" - not sure how you can be discrete with a device on top of your head but we did our best !!!

Later on the CSM came and had a chat about our onward flights and advised he would normally give us express cards but they were out and he apologized profusely - but with the arrival time into SYD was no big deal anyway.

I cant figure out the value these days of the Inwards Express Card - with the eGates in operation now I just go straight through them - I'm yet to encounter any delays using them

Re: When unstated WP, WP1 and CL benefits become almost farcical to fellow passengers

Friday morning domestic Mel to Syd, an FA with a list of passengers came and offered each of them papers before offering them generally.
The passengers (of which I was one) were greeting by name (quickly read off the list).
This was a 767.
Flew home on 737, no such behaviour...
