My first flight was in a DC3 flying between Rotorua and Palmerston North in NZ. It was then known as NAC (National Airways Corporation) prior to Air NZ. It was early 60's and I was about 8 years old

Aged 6. The unforgetable experience of a DC-9 out of YMEN (Essendon) to OOL (Gold Coast) Ansett, April 1970. The trip home was the highlight, I asked if I could visit the flight deck. Was invited to stay for the landing. Wore a set of headphones to listen to ATC. Have loved everything about flying ever since!

In 1980, age 1. YUL-CDG on an AF 747. Ultimate comfort in an Economy lie-flat seat.

Ok here goes - shows my age - first flight YUL - BOS in 1969 as a uni student on a "student standby fare" on AC. I cannot remember the type of aircraft but it was a jet. A couple of years later (post graduation) flew quite a bit on AC around Canada - often on turbo-props. Arrived in OZ as a new migrant in 1977 on a CP (Canadian Pacific Airways, now defunct) DC-8 via Hawaii, Tahiti and Fiji, DC-8 - baggage for the two of us included a couple of battered suitcases, a tennis bag with a broken handle, a cardboard box tied up with string and an "esky".

First flight in late 1940's probably on DC3 or DC6 from MEL to SYD via Canberra as had to divert due to severe thunderstorm activity. All I remember is the size of cars from the air, Canberra airport which seemed to be a large tin shed at the time and my great aunt complaining that , "they couldn't even make a decent cuppa tea. Flight took 7 hours with stop over. Best part of trip was when I got to Sydney and rode in the back dicky seat of my uncle's car.
Most interesting flight landing up hill on airstrip in PNG in small plane in early '60's pilot was an ex-sewing teacher from MLC. Quite a pioneer woman pilot in those days.

In primary school in the 1970's we did a sightseeing loop around Sydney in a Fokker Friendship as a school excursion. I compare that to my kids today, who are reasonably regular flyers at a very young age.

Forgot to say it was an ANA flight from Essendon airport which was the main airport before Tullamarine was built-

Aged 3. SIN-NRT-LAX return (or we may have returned from SFO - it's all a bit hazy now!) on JAL in J to Disneyland! No idea re aircraft type. Apparently I puked a lot.

In January 1963 I was 6 years old and a ten pound Pom migrating with my family to Australia. My mother was terrified of flying so we were booked on the SS Canberra. In the middle of the Mediterranean, an electrical fire brought the voyage to an abrupt end. We were stranded on Malta while any available aircraft were chartered to complete the trip. After a week, our turn came and we boarded a Pakistan International Airlines B720B to Sydney via Bangkok and Darwin. First time to Australia for the crew as well as the passengers! Then we continued to Melbourne on a TAA DC3 and finally a Vickers Viscount to Launceston. I have been addicted to flying ever since.
