where do I go through passport control

I am flying Qantas from Perth to Sydney, and then Qantas to Honolulu. I understand the bags will be checked through ( hopefully ) but where do I go through passport control?

After you transfer to the Intl. terminal at Sydney.

Assuming you're on a domestic flight (QF6XX) to SYD, transfer will be airside (SYD T3) to landside (SYD T1)...
