Where do you keep your passport?

In Feb when in MNL I was offered to purchase a Philippines passport.

My question was why do i want when I have an Aussie one he then said can you show me a genuine Aussie one and I said sorry but it is locked in the hotel safe.

Mine never leaves my person while I am travelling. It remains in my shirt pocket where it fits quite nicely along with my mobile phone.

I can't believe people are still trusting of those around them by leaving important things lying around....

Do you mean anyone who does not carry the P/P around on their person JohnK? My problem with carrying it around is that it'll either be in an 'insecure' pocket where it is likely to fall out, or in a 'secure' pocket where it is likely to be folded/mutilated. It goes in a safe if there is one, or a locked bag if there is not, or as a last resort I may very occasionally carry it somewhere with me (and sometimes I need to for ID purposes), but I am much more fearful of losing it that way than of leaving it in the hotel room.

I was only referring to people who store it in backpacks and carryon while travelling. It is quite easy for someone to slash a backpack and contents go missing just as it is quite easy for someone to go through overhead lockers and take things out. It would be a lot harder for someone to slash a shirt pocket or even the front pocket of the jeans with your hand still in it.

Once at destination I leave it in the safe as well.

That is what I meant by I cannot believe people are still trusting of those around them by leaving important things lying around. Wasn't the story we read on AFF recently enough?

I usually keep my passport in the alcove/storage area beside me/in front of me while in "seat mode", then when in "bed mode" my wallet/passport/cash goes under the seat/bed so I am sleeping on top of it!

Had a "worrying" experience on Air NZ a few weeks ago! It was about breakfast time and I had just woken up, and went off to the lavatory without thinking! My seat was in "bed mode" and the F/A asked me on the way to the lavatory if I wanted the seat put back to seat mode....

As I was cleaning my teeth, I realised I had left a wad of cash ($8000) under the bed next to my passport and wallet...

I quickly cleaned up, and dashed back out, the F/A was waiting next to my seat, which was still in bed mode... He made a very quiet comment to me "I saw that you had some items stored under your seat, I thought it best that you collect them, before I put the seat back into normal position)

I was very embarrassed and thanked him!

10/10 to him for handling a delicate situation in a professional manner!

Yes, all the cash was still there, as I did count it shortly after in the lavatory

NB: If any of you are wondering why I had that much cash, instead of using ATM's etc overseas, I had been converting Aussie to US $ over a few months to maximise the great exchange rate
