Possibly a stupid question....but I'm asking it anyway...

I caught a QF flight today on one of their 767 and got given seat 31 K. Turned up to my seat to find that whilst it was a seat beside the wall of the plane, that there was no window. There was space for a window, and I wasn't the last row. So, can anyone tell me why they don't have a window in that spot? I'm sure there is a very valid reason...just couldn't think of it myself.

Thanks

There likely something between the interior trim and the outside wall, a conduit for electrical cabling, air conditioning, structural or other. There's a few of these areas around the front of the wing.

You can get an idea from the seatmaps (the wall is shown as Black).

The window is missing as that is where the aircon goes from the floor (air con packs near the wing) to the ceiling on both sides. Note the 787 has the same but further aft.

And just in case someone wants to note for reference, on the 737-400 there is no window at 9A....found this out the hard way on a trip back from Perth :shock::(.

Yeah it really is the trap for young players, when I first started flying frequently I did a trip from DRW-BNE, I asked for a window seat at checkin, where I was promptly given an "A" seat. Get to my seat and sure enough it was a windowless seat...

All the disadvantages of a window seat, with none of the advantages...

These days I do try and keep in mind which seats are windowless for each of the plane types I fly on, just incase I'm handed a boarding pass and told "yes Mr Harvyk, it's a window seat"

When you do OLCI the seatmaps shown at that stage often show these seats as windows, when in fact there isnt one actually there.

IIRC 24A/K on the 738 is windowless, but OLCI shows it as window. Found that one out the hard way (fortunately only BNE-SYD). They are supposed to be "last filled" seats, and look attractive ("window" seat, second row....)

The latest QF in-flight magazine announces that the new interior 738's have "larger windows".

Have Boeing started making a special version?

No - the BSI model has a redesigned window surround that makes the windows appear bigger, even though they actually aren't.

I seem to remember reading something about this in Boeings marketing material for BSI.
