Where would you go? [10 days off over/around Easter]

I spent 7 days in HK last march and it was a good length of time, but still had several more places I wanted to see plus spent a day in Macau, which could have been a few days. Also Shenzen and Guangzhou are easy to visit from HK, so that is a definite option.

Another trip I'm planning is Samoa and American Samoa. Although I'm only looking at a week for those (although for island lovers i think it would be a good 10 day trip). Or for something different you can go to any number of remote tropical island places like Kiribati or the cook islands.

You could do a 2 city trip like Singapore/HK, or Beijing/Shanghai.

For something different Sri Lanka and Mauritius are probably close enough for 10 days to be good.

I've got many ideas, my problem is often picking which one, rather than not having an idea!

I booked 10 days in Malaysia in April (leaving on Easter Saturday) when AirAsia had a deal going in late January (A$439 return with seat selection, luggage and snacks). Good schedule, short'ish flight times.

I’ve booked 2 nights in KL followed by 5 nights in Kuantan and 3 days in KL at the end.

As much as I have grown to enjoy KL, I want to see what smaller, less commercialized cities in Peninsular Malaysia have to offer. Kuantan is less than 3 hours away from KL by bus and has beaches, rivers and smaller towns of interest, all within 30 to 45 Km.
Malaysia is now very accessible (from Adelaide), no visa or entry hassles, great infrastructure and public transport plus good shopping (clothing, footwear and IT) and some great food options.

From there, I am continuing onto Austin, Texas (via the "long way" round). I will be gone about 2 weeks all up and fly 45k BIS miles in First and Business Class

Mrs OATEK and myself are off to Hong Kong - they say April is just about the best time of the year weather-wise in the SAR. Easy enough to do some side trips from there by train and/or plane (Shenzen, Shanghai).

I'm off to Tokyo as well, but I am only doing 32K BIS miles over 6 days.

In Easter I will be driving through the Canadian Rockies with my wife starting in Calgary and ending up in Vancouver... (this part of the trip is about the middle of our Nth American odyssey)

However, if I was you I would consider a cruise, however unlike many we prefer to fly to a destination first and then take the cruise. That way you get away from Aussies and it feels more exotic. (nothing wrong with Aussies, just prefer not to holiday with them) Try Tahiti. It is expensive but on a cruise it is a much cheaper alternative. We went with Princess cruises and it was great.

BKK for a week then Penang by train for a week and then back to BKK by train. Will avoid Songhan by staying by the pool rather than dodge the buckets of water or the hand grenades else where in BKK.

So I have 10 days off over the easter break and I am torn where to travel too. If you had 10 days off, where would you be booking your flights too?

Have you thought about going to Taiwan? Aussies don't need a visa. The language is not a huge problem and the Taiwanese are very polite & helpful. Taipei is a great city and very safe. Take the fast train down to Kaohsiung. Do some day trips which you can book through Viator. Stay at the Park Taipei which is very handy to a station on their excellent Metro system with a "myki" system that actually works like a dream. Fantastic place. I'd go back at the drop of a hat if there weren't so many other places I haven't been.

I'm going to LAX driving to Mammoth mountain if there's still snow for a bit of snowboarding then driving to Vegas for a couple of days then back to LA apparently 3 x 6 hour drives but we'll see

I just got back from 10 days in Vietnam. So that would be me choice. Fly into Saigon, head off to Hoi An -4 nights - Hanoi 3 nights and back to Saigon for 2 nights. weather should be good too. Hoi An is a dream to kick back and enjoy the charm of the ancient city, food and coughtails, Hanoi for the madness and Saigon for the ambiance and beauty. The worst thing about Vietnam, the price and archaic way for getting a visa...money order or bank cheque????
