Where's good in October?

Been a long three weeks, but we're getting on top of it. We really like it though, and bub has embraced it with gusto.

Not off the points bandwagon as such, just have to be careful with money for a bit. The future may be about buying AA/LM and the like from time to time.

We have found AA awards harder to get this year. Their partners have availability so it still works.

In a recent work communication I saw the word impecunious and had to look it up. I was gruntled to get that word into my modest vocabulary.
It should only be temporary and moving to new digs did that for us too.

In my line of work we'd simply say "broke". Less ambiguous.

On topic: get home from work and the wife says she's given some thought to this holiday idea, and then suggests Christmas Island.
Talk about left field.

Given the tight budget I would be looking West ... not East.

Go to Christmas Island and do a trip report. It seems to be warm and dry in October.

We went to Xch last Nov at the begining of the wet season to see the Red crab migration...it was incredible and all accommodation on the island was booked out...we saw 3 international TV crews filming. Stop off at Cocos Islands enroute and you will not regret it!!....I just noticed you will be ex Per so easy to do the above 2 places...only Va fly there so expensive but an excellent use of points!

I've woken up warming to the idea, but early signs suggest all the reward seats have been taken. There's only a couple flight combinations that would work for us date wise, so it may not work out.

Also it looks like two legs, which she's already said she is not interested in.

Not too hard to get to Rottnest Island and some folks can swim that distance.

Yes I continue to wonder about how big that 4 metre hammerhead shark is about 3 decades later. I was sitting on the bottom at Stragglers Reef when that one swam slowly past our group.

For those playing, we've settled on Broome. Shortish flight and enough to do for us all to be happy for 5-6 days.

Not the worst use of points, even though there are no J options. Y revenue fares can be more expensive than transcontinental, so little extra value in burning some miles. I think.

QF has J as does VA on some days/flights when they have the 737 running instead of the F100. I'm heading there in August and used points (EY) for J on the 737 coming back.

Checked all flights on all suitable dates and all J awards appear booked out. All good though. Mix of QF and VA points will get us there and back for minimal cash. Money saved will go to my fishing plans!

Broome should be a lot better than Rottnest. Our friends are up there right now.....and catching fish.
