Which cards have you applied for this year (2016)?

Hi Just looking for some assistance here with the cards I currently have and looking to sign up for bonus cards as they come on board.

Have ANZ Black Visa/Amex (ending 5/8) - Limit is $42K have had this for many years and don't need that much credit should I drop it back ? Will probably keep the Visa because of travel insurance and plans already made
DJ Amex - $4k limit - but this is stopping me from getting other Amex Cards with bonus's I think or any suggestions on other Amex cards that I could apply for
NAB Velocity 6K limit - Received the Virgin points so I should cancel this now

Any suggestions or help appreciated - have previously held and cancelled the St George, Westpac but that was over 12 months ago

Unfortunately I believe you are right (at least according to the T&C's) - holding a DJ's AMEX does preclude you from earning signon bonus points for another AMEX card eg the 100k points on offer from the Velocity Platinum Card - although the reverse is allowed. Interestingly a Points Hack clarification from AMEX in May this year says that you would be eligible for the 100k Velocity points (or other non-DJ signon bonuses) - what to make of that who knows!

I'd certainly be cancelling any cards you non longer need, eg you NAB card to reset any waitout periods (not relevant to NAB is they allow back to back apps).

The 80k points on offer with the Westpac Altitude Black could be worth considering if you were so inclined.

Good luck whichever way you choose to go!

Hey guys,

I note the window has opened for Plat Edge again for me!
*I don't pay annual fees.*
Can you add Jetstar credit to the $200 Amex travel credit or is Amex only able to be used on a Virgin flight?
Is this the best Free Amex at the moment with a bonus?

I'm not aware of a better value (ie bigger signon bonus) AMEX at the moment - and as a previous cardholder you'd know it is tough to find a better card than the Edge.

The AMEX travel credit can only be used when you book through the AMEX travel website - this is a "travel agent" like site (eg like booking through Flight Center for example) so I doubt you could use any airline credits at the same time.

Enjoy your new card!

In post #105 adelee said cancel your AMEX card within the first 3 months and they will give you a generous pro rata refund.
Does this apply to all Amex cards? Or just some? I'm particularly thinking of the Explorer and DJ.

It does happen sometimes. But you should not necessarily expect it to happen.
