I have Gold Status with Virgin Australia (Locked in for 2024) and only bronze with Qantas. I’m flying Oman to Europe return in business next month.

am I better off registering my FF with Etihad (with pass thru to VA) or signing up for Oman ahead of Oneworld entrance later this year?

all opinions gratefully received.

Oman Air's Sindbad program is next to useless - I'd credit your return to Etihad Guest.
You will not be able to transfer those miles to VA, but you will be able to redeem those miles for VA sectors.

Once redeemed, you can then alter the FF to Virgin Australia to receive elite benefits.

wheretofindmel welcome to AFF

A few ff miles in orphan freq flyer programs are close to useless. With a few minor exceptions ff miles cannot be moved from one ffp to another. Exceptions are the airlines that use avios and SQ<-->VA. Maybe others.

But a business class AU to EU should be a reasonable earner to EY. For first flight from AU what airline/flight code share.
EY has several partners to used those miles. Where to Credit | Where to Credit Etihad Flights

Thanks everyone. Sounds like EY is the way to go.

The codeshare airline for the first leg is Thai Airways.
So Thia operated and Oman flight number?
Codeshares crediting to 3rd airlines freq flyer program very problematic, unless all 3 are in the same alliance (i.e not for this flight),
Crediting to EY will depend on the fine print in the EY ffp t&c's.
