Which is better SPG or HHonors (from an OZ Perspective)

As HH Gold I've always gotten the upgrade and/or the comp internet. Gave up on brekky after realising that I'd never woken up in time to eat it, or preferred to eat brekky outside the hotel.

FWIW, I really don't care too much about room upgrades.

Yes - bigger and/or better room/facilities are nice, but it's breakfast, followed by exec lounge access that does it for me.

(You can't eat a bathrobe).

Now from your trip reports surely sometimes you are arriving back at your room about the time breakfast service begins?

:oops::mrgreen:
(4am in Berlin as I type this so I've almost done it again...)

I must say the upgrade perk of SPG PLT is what does it for me. :) Even if I woke up early in time for brekky I'd rather eat brekky at a nice cafe out of the hotel instead of a generic hotel brekky. (And brekky costs much less than actually paying for a bigger room) And of course the feeling of getting something for almost nothing, and staying in a much nicer room than the plebs - priceless...

:p:lol: I was trying to think of a wisecrack in response to QF009's breakfast comment .. I couldn't have done any better!!!

I'm inclined to agree with Serfty's preference of breakfast over room upgrade. I'm a leisure hotel stayer predominantly, and don't spend a lot of time in the room, so the size is usually irrelevant beyond the basic space to move around and store luggage, shower, bed etc.

Given most top-tier stays are going to be business-related, unless you require your room for meetings and entertaining, a multi-room suite seems a little wasted.

Furthermore, my hit:miss ratio for suite upgrades with SPG is not good, and I am not the type of person (unfortunately) who will press the point.

As if almost proving your point and mine, it's 1431 here in Berlin and I've yet to sleep a wink. Stepped out of the pub at 1130, had brunch at a nice little cafe my new drinking buddies brought me to, and got home not long ago. Wouldn't have made it back in time for hotel brekky.

Twas an interesting nite... (edit: I plead the 5th...)
